Similar to cyhborg and wildgoosespeeder, I too never used the piston platform, nor did I have to stand on the edge of any piece of glass for that matter. Believe it or not, I found this easier to find than the intended solution (which appears to have a nice style resembling Gig's two "Outside the Box" maps).

My exploit is even simpler and shorter with the cube flings, but you need to be quick, shoot portals as you are in them, and be standing on the edge of the glass. I never used the piston platform.
