Description
Winter/Italy. Nov, 1943. The U.S. Fifth Army launched an offensive against German/Italian lines near the alpine town of Mignano. It was located near the begining of the Liri Valley, aka "The Gateway to Rome". Mountains and hills dominate the region providing excellent natural defenses, which slowed the allied advance in Italy. The gap was taken by early January 1944, and Allied forces drove on to meet the Axis prepared at the Gustav line. VP/AN
