Description
The Dire Wolf Mk.1L-SB Light Tank is a small grid ground vehicle by Black Sail, designed for anti-vehicle combat and infantry support. Because of their very balanced combination of speed, armour and firepower, these vehicles are an important part of Black Sail's ground forces. This tank is fully vanilla, uses NO DLC content and is survival ready.

Author's Note:
This little tank is based on a design I created one year ago for trying out a PvP city map with my friend. It kind of worked but it was still the time were clang disabled or destroyed everything with a rotor on it. The tank worked and it was funny playing around with it, but all in all it was just an unstable mess. So, it joined the many never finished or used projects in my blueprint menu. But since Keen updated the hitboxes, Clang is a lot more friendly to rotors and I used the original design to create this spiked addition for the Black Sail ground forces.

Key Features:
  • Survival-ready (but not recommended)- The tanks hull is fully conveyor-linked, features a good amount of cargo space and is equipped with an O2/H2 generator.
  • Manoeuvrability - Four pairs of wheels, two of them steerable provide the tank with an excellent turning radius, combined with good acceleration and speed.
  • Armour Protection- The Dire Wolf is well armoured for its size and offers good protection for the cockpit and vital systems. In addition, the spiked armour panels and the front shield are extremely useful for ramming other vehicles.
  • Firepower - The tanks armament consists out of a 200mm rocket launcher and a 25mm gatling cannon with good elevation and depression angles, mounted in a fast-traversing turret, turning the vehicle into a reliable weapons platform.

Description:
Even after centuries of military history, tanks still play an important role in the ground forces of most factions and Black Sail is no exception. In the ranks of Black Sail, tanks serve less as a combat unit and more as a propaganda tool. The number of tanks shows the military strength of a faction, at least in the eyes of Black Sail. As a result, their tanks are lighter armed, lighter armoured, and generally smaller. That means they can be constructed in much larger numbers. The tanks of the Dire Wolf series embody this design philosophy. They are easy to build, maintain, and modify. Additionally, their versatile frame allowed Black Sail engineers to design many variants of these tanks for a large variety of tasks.

With a mass of 96 metric tons, the AFV Dire Wolf Mk.1L-SB is the lightest wheeled tank in the ranks of Black Sail. This unit of the Dire Wolf series is designed as a single-seated armoured fighting vehicle. Their main role is screening friendly units, provide fire support for the own troops and serve as armoured reconnaissance vehicle. Therefore, it has weaker armour and firepower compared to other tanks but is faster and more manoeuvrable.

The L-SB’s hull is built out of heavy armour with light armoured mudguards holding spiked armour panels for further protection against high explosive ammunition. Additionally, the spiked armour panels and the heavy armoured front shield can become very handy for ramming. The eight-wheeled chassis has a tight wheelbase with four steerable wheels giving the tank a very tight turning circle, while the Dire Wolf’s all-wheel-drive provides good speed and acceleration characteristics. With speeds up to 120 km/h the Dire Wolf is an agile force on plane fields but lacks climbing capabilities due to its low ground clearance and relatively high weight. The tank is powered mainly by small nuclear reactors with small batteries as support. The cabin is fully pressurized, and the tank has an oxygen generator installed. Like most other Black Sail vehicles, the built-in cargo space of the craft is good and is further increased by small cargo containers mounted on open spaces on the tank’s mudguards.

The armament consists out of a 200mm rocket launcher supported by a regular 25mm gatling gun. This armament is mounted on a fast-traversing turret with good elevation and depression angles. For accurate aiming, even at night, the tank is equipped with a camera and a spotlight mounted on the barrel. For fights in tight spaces, for example in urban areas, the L-SB variant has its primary armament mounted on a short barrel (SB) which allows full turret traverse without the risk of getting the tank stuck or damaging the weapon systems.

This tank is mainly used as propaganda tool, often seen on military parades involving hundreds of tanks for demonstrating Black Sails military power. Besides that, the L-SB models serve as mid-range patrol unit, convoy escort and reconnaissance vehicle. Because of their vulnerability to modern AT-weaponry, these tanks are rarely seen at the frontline. But when they are used in offensive operations, they are usually deployed in larger groups supported by other vehicles to serve as fast armoured spearheads.

I hope you like my first tank for Black Sail. If you do so, please leave a like and if not give me some constructive criticism.

Misc:
The tanks programmable blocks are loaded with these scripts:
MART | Whip's Mouse Aimed Rotor Turret Script by Whiplash 141
SIMPL | Ship Integrity Monitoring Program Lite by Whiplash 141
Whip's Planetary Compass Script also by Whiplash 141
Automatic LCDs 2 by MMaster
Thank you for your awesome scripts!

Thank You:
It would not be possible for me to create these builds without this awesome community.
Thank you! If you like this tank, please give me a like and if you don’t like it tell me why!

@Tyrenol; I hope so. Again thank you for the help.

Thanks for the kind words about my design! Yeah sadly my tank is very limited in its gun depression and elevation because of its turret height. And clang can come peeking around the corner sometimes haha. I hope you can take my ideas and use them maybe in another great build in the future!

@Tyrenol; Thank you very much for the inspiration. You are right your tank has a far more durable armament and some other nice features. But if I would have decided to use your barrel design solution the turret would need to be much bigger than it already is. That would look weird, unless I would change the hull design, making it wider, longer and less nimble. It also extremely limits the depression an elevation angles and it is also more affected by Clang, at least when I tried it out. Might be my potatoe PC. In my oppinion your vehicle is designed to take damage, the Dire Wolf is designed to avoid damage. I will try to Improve my design based on your vehicle. Again thank you (reloading from inside the tank, you are a genius)!

I tried the tank and it looks really cool! I really like the design and the details on the tank. I tested the protection and it seems that the weapons on tank get disabled after 1 hit on the front or the side of the turret, the azimuth rotor is also quite exposed. If you want you can take a look at a tank i built that is about the same size and weight and has some more protection at those zones. Maybe it will give you some inspiration for a later design. Cool!

@Towerwatch; Thank you very much. You are right the hull is pretty resiliant, but unfortunately rocket launchers and gatling guns are not able to take damage.

its compact, but it's tough! I really like this design!
