Unlimited Outside Connections Revisited 1.1

Description

Resurrected!

BloodyPenguin's original Unlimited Outside Connections mod is no longer functioning as of the 1.15 (Plazas & Promenades) game update. The changes required to fix this were more than simple tweaks, and this mod has been resurrected to carry on the functionality.

Place as many roads and railways with outside connections as you want in-game or in MapEditor.
Simply select the network you want to make the connection with, and build it across the map edge (either from the map outwards, or from outside the map inwards).

Reaching the map edge
Obviously, you'll need a mod that enables you to build to the map edge (this mod won't do that on its own), such as 81 Tiles 2.

Use with the Network Anarchy mod to add outside connections using roads that don't normally connect to the outside.

Network Anarchy
Make sure that Network Anarchy is set to 'default' mode (not forcing ground/elevated/bridge/tunnel) when making outside connections, otherwise they won't work. Outside connections are a special type of road 'elevation' and the tool needs to be free to select that automatically (and not overriden by anarchy).

Ship and airplane paths
This mod also lifts the limit on these (use Find It to access the networks themselves in-game), but be aware that new airplane connections placed in-game may behave strangely, so be careful.

Safe to unsubscribe at any time; this mod doesn't modify savegames (note, though, that if you've created more than four connections of any type the game won't like it unless you're running either this mod or the original).

Credit where credit is due
Huge thanks to BloodyPenguin, the author of the original mod!

if you have deleted your train connection to the outside world the track must be reconnected using a train connection track found by using find it 2

@飘香醉 As noted in the description above, custom airways can be very fragile and can break. There's no sure-fire fix, but you might try bulldozing and replacing airports.

Dear author, when used, the roads are normal, the ship fairways are normal, the railways are normal, only the airplane routes do not work, there are no planes entering my city, how is this

I'm just setting up a map for a large long term build. I prefer altering things in play mode not editor. The problem I had all came down to roads terrain following and so changing height when you extend them. Just need to make sure reset to default height when trying to make a new connection. same for railways.

Same issue for me, train outside connection is broken. Anarchy is off and still no green arrows. i accidently deleted my train connection with delete (on move it)... now i cant trace it back. it says its loaded but i have only 1 train, 1 ship, 1 highway and one plane connection. and it says its loaded. I have 53k citizens. Do i have to unsubscribe anarchy ? :'(

@King Arron II Nothing's changed with this mod for nearly a year-and-a-half now and it still works.

Most commonly what you're seeing is when you're trying to make outside connections using network types that don't support it (e.g. most custom networks, or networks with zoning).

The second most common reason is that you're using Network Anarchy and have the elevation setting set to something other than 'default'.

The third most common reason is that you're using a conflicting mod (typically one of the older mods that appear to work but in fact now quietly break things in the background).

This mod says it's loaded but hasn't worked for months now. I can connect networks to the edge of map, but no green arrow or 'outside connection' appears

@algernon Alright, thank you for the answer

@bazometr This doesn't affect existing connections at all. There are many mods that can cause that issue you've described, but this isn't one of them.
