81 Tiles 2 TESTING

Description

INITIAL TESTING
Hopefully bug-free, but, you know, that's why we have these testing releases. Usual testing disclaimers apply, blah blah blah, you know the drill.

If you don't know the drill: this is TESTING, and is not yet considered ready for production release. It may contain bugs, and (more likely) conflict with older mods. Make sure that any bug reports are accompanied by your output log so I can do something about it.

Comments just saying 'it's broken" (or similar) with no other information or evidence will be deleted. Seriously, why do you even bother doing that?

DON'T SUBSCRIBE if you're not willing to help out with testing if something goes wrong for you.

DON'T SUBSCRIBE if you're not willing to unsubscribe from all your other mods (however temporarily) if you encounter any issues (especially any 'blue screen' loading failures due to conflicting mods).

Unsubscribe from any other 81 tile mods before using

Overview
A complete ground-up rewrite of the venerable '81 tiles' mod (contains zero code from the original mod), to increase performance and avoid the bugs in the original. Should be (again, testing!) 100% backwards-compatible with the original.

Two notable bugs in the original don't appear in this version:
  • Metro lines sinking when tiles are purchased
  • Water displacement waves outside the 25-tile area when the game is loaded
  • Deleted network pillars outside the 25-tile area resetting on game load (NOTE: some older mods will still have issues with this, but that's those mod's issue - use Move It to remove pillars and you should be fine).

Huge thanks to emf, the author of the (very) original 81 tiles mod, and (of course) the famous BloodyPenguin who took it over back in 2015 and continued it all the way to the present day - not an easy task, and the entire community owes a huge debt of gratitude!

Additional features
Includes optional 'no need for powerlines', 'no need for pipes', and 'electric roads' functionality (partially as a backup mechanism in case something goes wrong, and partially because if you're going for the full 81 tiles you probably want to save on networks).

No need for powerlines
Means just that: when selected, powerlines are no longer needed for electricity transmission (you still need to produce the electricity, you just don't have to worry about getting it anywhere).

No need for pipes
The same as for powerlines: when selected, pipes are no longer needed for water/sewage/heating transmission (as with electricity, you still need to have the supply/treatment capacity). You don't need to attach pipe segments to any water facility buildings to stop them complaining; the mod will (should!) take care of everything for you.

Electric roads
Means that roads will now also act as powerlines. You can have this activated at the same time as 'no need for powerlines' if you really want (there just won't be much point, obviously).

Conflicting mods
Any other 81 Tiles mods (obviously). THAT INCLUDES EML BETA.

81 Tiles
Purchase it!
BigCity (25 tiles mod)
Extended Managers Library Beta
Remove Need For Power Lines
Remove Need For Pipes
Electric Roads Mod 2.1.3

All functions of these mods are included in this mod!

After the 1.15 update, some older mods are now broken and need to be unsubscribed - having them active will cause problems with this mod. There are many of these, but some of the key ones are:
  • Auto Bulldoze
  • No Problem Notifications
  • Building Variations

REMEMBER: a lot of older unmaintained mods are now broken, especially with the latest game update. Obviously, that's nothing to do with this mod. Make sure you CHECK YOUR MODS AND REMOVE OUTDATED/BROKEN ONES before reporting any potential issues with this mod.

If you're getting a blue screen at the end of loading, that's due to an older mod conflicting with this one.

That being said, this mod has been developed and tested against most of the currently-maintaned mods with no issues discovered.

Known issues with other mods
The original Surface Painter won't recognise this version of 81 tiles, so won't work outside of the 25-tile area. A fixed version is now available.

Building Themes has now been updated to work with this mod. You no longer need the temporary fix.

Trouble loading saves created with the original 81 Tiles or EML Beta?
If you're getting strange results, including missing districts or park areas (actually hidden away in a corner), then try loading the (original) save using the recovery option 'Ignore expanded 81 tiles data when next loading a save' in the mod's options panel.

Meta
In theory can be safely removed at any time (you'll just lose all the functionality outside the 25-tile area), but that's really one of the things that could use a lot more real-world testing.

Special thanks to Mbyron26 for the great logo!

DO NOT USE THIS MOD IN ANY EDITOR
DO NOT SECOND-LOAD USING THIS OR ANY OTHER MOD. ALWAYS EXIT TO DESKTOP BETWEEN LOADS.

Getting an error that says "Could not load type 'Problem'. [System.TypeLoadException]", especially when placing pipes/powerlines? THAT'S NOT THIS MOD - YOU ARE SUBSCRIBED TO AN OLD MOD THAT'S BEEN BROKEN BY THE UPDATE. Don't post about it here, please - save this page for issues actually related to this mod.

@thetruebeliever Use a camera mod to zoom out further (my own one is ACME ).

Is anyone else having an issue where they can't zoom out all the way? The mod works, I have 81 tiles and everything is playable, but will I scroll back on my mouse I can only get so high and am not able to see the whole map. In the old version I'm pretty sure I could zoom out all the way. Wondering if anyone else is having this issue.

@hydlided Can you share that broken save for me to look at?

@jcc5018 You're out of memory; try unsubbing some assets to bring your use down (and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time as C:S, especially memory-hungry apps like web browsers). Obviously, 81 tiles requires a bit more memory than 25, and it looks like it's tipping you over the edge (which you were pretty much on to start with, judging by your 25-tile log).
