Unlimited Outside Connections Revisited 1.1

Description

Resurrected!

BloodyPenguin's original Unlimited Outside Connections mod is no longer functioning as of the 1.15 (Plazas & Promenades) game update. The changes required to fix this were more than simple tweaks, and this mod has been resurrected to carry on the functionality.

Place as many roads and railways with outside connections as you want in-game or in MapEditor.
Simply select the network you want to make the connection with, and build it across the map edge (either from the map outwards, or from outside the map inwards).

Reaching the map edge
Obviously, you'll need a mod that enables you to build to the map edge (this mod won't do that on its own), such as 81 Tiles 2.

Use with the Network Anarchy mod to add outside connections using roads that don't normally connect to the outside.

Network Anarchy
Make sure that Network Anarchy is set to 'default' mode (not forcing ground/elevated/bridge/tunnel) when making outside connections, otherwise they won't work. Outside connections are a special type of road 'elevation' and the tool needs to be free to select that automatically (and not overriden by anarchy).

Ship and airplane paths
This mod also lifts the limit on these (use Find It to access the networks themselves in-game), but be aware that new airplane connections placed in-game may behave strangely, so be careful.

Safe to unsubscribe at any time; this mod doesn't modify savegames (note, though, that if you've created more than four connections of any type the game won't like it unless you're running either this mod or the original).

Credit where credit is due
Huge thanks to BloodyPenguin, the author of the original mod!

This mod uses Harmony[github.com] version 2.2 by Andreas Pardeike via the Cities Harmony mod by boformer.

I have activated it, but there is no effect in the game. Do I need to unlock the 81 tiles using a mod for it to work?

@Uight Unfortunately, I don't have any further suggestions at this point; it's a known issue with airplane paths sometimes (hence the note in the description above). Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't - it looks as though you've been unlucky with this one.

i tried deleteing the aiport area and readd the main building then repaint the are and i also deleted all aircraft stands and readded them but that didnt work.
For another test i deleted the whole airplane path and realized that you cant even delete the outside connection. When i redrew new paths the plans would still only spawn on that one side but then not follow the new path at all instead straigh b-lining to the airport now.
Then i tried just adding more outside connection at other places but these are never used at all.

For the ship paths i didnt have any problem. The map i used had none and i just added one down a river and that worked fine. Also 3 new highways and two more train connections all working its just the plane path that doesnt

@Uight Ship and plane outside connections can be unpredictable by their nature, and sometimes are difficult to get to work. Have you tried deleting your existing air/seaports and rebuilding them after the new connection is placed?

@algernon can it be that the limitation from the More Network stuff that i would supposed is used for the ship and plane paths is still present. Because i sometime ago delted one of the outside plane connections and readded later with a different path but that connection is never used. Tried some otheer stuff to but only the original connection is ever used at all.
Is there a way to fix this?

@Nuclear_Xtreme Glad you figured it out - yes, that behavior is part of the base game; although you can manually create routes between existing stations and outside connections if you want (the connections are functionally stations and can be connected with the transport line tool).

Nice to see that the GitHub source came in handy!

Ok, think I see what my issue was. TLDR: looks like the way transport AI detects these outside links is at the time of *placing the station/building*, so if you create outside connections, only building placed afterwards actually "see" them. So you should probably create all the ones you need at the start of a saved game unlike me lol :chirp:

I took a look on your GitHub src code @algernon and seen "
/// <param name="buildingID">ID of created building.</param>
public static void OnBuildingCreated(ushort buildingID)"
at {LINK REMOVED} in the repo :hardhat:

I figured this was a good clue and I was right! Live-saving mod for the game BTW and thanks for coding this one up :) :VBCOOL:

Having issues with rail lines on edge of map :( Have Harmony 2.2.0, and using NA with 'default' mode. Weird thing is on this same saved game it's working on the other edge of the map? Any ideas? I have enough traffic demand FYI.

@algernon i've fix the problem after i pull out the road out of the map instead of just pull out of a tile.thx:steamthumbsup:

@PrinceLim The message you posted there says that there's no problem. Unless you meant something else?

@algernon Thanks, I dont need more than four connections, just wanted to change directions, also I don't want to load my pc with too many mods.
