Team Philips - Racing Catamaran

A small grid recreation of the ill-fated Racing Catamaran 'Team Philips'.

2021 Marks the 20th anniversary of 'The Race', an event created for multi-hull racing yachts that the cutting-edge 'Team Philips' was built to take part in. After suffering several set backs including a broken section of hull & damaged mast socket, she finally set sail on a round-Britain voyage on-route to the start of The race, reaching speeds of 38 knots. Tragically, she ran into a once in a century Atlantic storm with 100+ mph winds and 10 meter waves which caused significant structural damage, resulting in the crew having to abandon ship onto a passing cargo ship, leaving Team Philips adrift where she eventually broke up, sections of hull washing up in various locations either side of the Atlantic ocean.

I have a special connection with Team Philips, she was built just a few miles from where I live in the Totnes shipyards. I visited her during construction, watched her launch, her return with a section of hull missing, her return with a broken mast socket, and her last time of setting sail to meet her untimely fate. A tragic loss of a stunning, cutting edge vessel that was just a little too far ahead of her time- nothing quite so revolutionary has been launched since.

Summary:

After building the WaterWorld Trimaran, I was planning on building some other craft from that movie, but I got a hankering to build Team Philips before that as I was in that kinda head-space, and it is indeed almost 20 years since she was launched, so yeah- enjoy.

Important note:

The Blueprint itself is 100% Vanilla, but in order to use it properly you will require subscribing to the WaterMod, Text HUD API, and ideally the 'Planet water' planet although it will work on any world with the water added to it via the water mod. Everything you need is linked on the right hand side under 'Required Items'.
