Description
Helicopter Turbulence

As featured in Helisimmer: https://www.helisimmer.com/news/helicopter-turbulence-arma3

FEATURES:
- Adds random atmospheric turbulence forces to all helicopters.
- Works with any modded helicopter, RHS, CUP etc compatible!
- Includes serverkey
- Scales based on weather (overcast and windspeed both generate more severe turbulence)
- Larger, heavier aircraft are less impacted due to their mass, however as they have a larger surface area the forces are also greater. This means each aircraft handles turbulence slightly different as the surface area/mass ratio is different.
- As an aircraft approaches its top speed, it becomes more stable.
- Client-side calculations, so the server will not slow down due to this in multiplayer.
- Only does calculations if the player is the pilot, so will not impact performance unless you are flying. Even then it should be minimal.
- Does not affect Rotorlib Advanced Flight Model.
- Doesn't affect AI pilots (they really need the help)
- CBA settings integration for various aspects of the mod.
- VTOL aircraft are treated as planes by the game, and require the Plane Turbulence mod.

The default flight model in ArmA is a ton of fun and has the right balance of realism and ease of use, it's almost perfect.
Almost.
Something I don't like is that the environment has no effect on the flight of your helicopter, that is if you're perfectly hovering you will hover forever. In reality, wind and random pertubations in the world will cause your helicopter to bob about a bit. This mod does that.

This mod adds slight turbulence to a helicopter based on both the mass and the surface area of the helicopter. Your helicopter will naturally bob, weave and change direction slightly due to the natural chaos of the atmosphere. If it's raining or is windy, this effect will become more severe.
In the worst weather, in the lightest helicopters, they actually can become difficult to fly. Littlebirds and Pawnees in a storm get tossed about like a leaf on the wind.

This should influence the helicopter you choose to take, and how you choose to fly.

Known issues:
Does nothing for drones.
All drones still work normally, just without turbulence.

Not aiming for realism I want something that directs player behavior.
If I can create a massive downdraft behind a mountain chain, they won't use it and steal every single kill in the objective, if wind beats the crap out of anything above 150 meters they won't just toggle auto hover and sit there, you get me?

hey could you maybe implement modules that give us a larger range of adjustment, even the worst conditions barely affect gunner aim in a gunship plus it would be nice to add regional turbulences to keep air assets from camping specific mountain ranges

@WilleoSix Read the description.

Does this also affect helicopters that are piloted by AI? And will they try to correct their angle/heading? And does your plane turbulence mod also do this?

Hey Seb, is it alright if I put this in my unit's AUX mod?
Son of Krazybee Oct 25, 2021 @ 4:22pm
No worries! Thank you for the response Sir!

I'm afraid not, it just accounts for weather.

Does this mod take effect into mountain turbulence? Specifically how your windward/leeward side can be utilized for updrafts and downdrafts?

Nothing wrong with basic flight model , I like the choice and enjoy both. Arma is not a flight sim and not everyone has hotas for advanced flight model.
