Description
Price: 5500 mk || Tier: 1

Shi Jie Shipyard's entry level submersible, the Palestar is a scout class vessel optimized for affordability in a compact frame. A reinforced Command cabin and bottom hull gives the ship excellent crew survivability for it's size and class. It's offensive armament of two Coil Guns, paired with two defensive Discharge Coils allow it to safely traverse the Europan depths. The ship is able to operate for a moderate amount of time while the reactor is shutdown by using it's battery power reserves.

Features:
  • Power Insulated Engine
The engine draws power from a dedicated battery that has it's recharge level set by the amount of power remaining. This system will make sure the battery always has power as long as the reactor is running. As the battery's charge decreases the power draw from the reactor increases.
  • Backup Power Batteries
Powers the coilguns, ballast, engines, navigation terminal, oxygen generator, and most of the ship's interior lights. Turned on from navigation terminal
  • Drainage System
Can be toggled from the navigation terminal (can only drain the top floors and engine room)
  • Discharge Coils
Mounted on the top and bottom of the sub to dislodge unwanted passengers, activated from the navigation terminal.
  • Exterior Lights Toggle
Exterior lights can be turned off/on with a button beside the navigation terminal. Additionally the coil gun lights can also be turned off with a button situated between their periscopes.
  • Machine Shop
Located next to the engine room, the ship has a very small machine shop to allow deconstruction and fabrication of items.
  • Powered Docking
The sub receives power from the primary docking port. When docked to stations the reactor can be shutdown to reserve fuel. Systems that are powered from the docking port are: Batteries, oxygen generator, fabricator/deconstructor, rear access shaft pumps, status monitors, and some of the lights.
  • Additional status monitor in the engine room

I designed this sub primarily for starting out single player campaigns and multiplayer campaigns of smaller crews (2-3 people) with newer players. It starts with a modest equipment load-out that should keep you going for the first few missions. This is the starting point for a line of submarines that can be used throughout a campaign: The Palestar II the Faustus, and the Exathra.

There is an advanced version of this sub for players with a bit more experience under their belt, the Palestar A.

Please let me know how you like it, and post any issues you run into and I'll try and get it fixed asap!

Hi Shura, I checked the sub out in game and it was able to make it through a transport mission without anybody losing oxygen. Did you have any mods running?

bug report: there is no oxygen on the ship anywhere, and multiple of our human crew members have died shortly after spawning in with the ship as our starter

Thank you for the heads up Newinger! It looks like I forgot to link the loaders after I updated for the last patch, it is fixed now! :captainsmooth:

For some reason, I can't use the coilgun in the Palestar. It is loaded with the default coilgun ammu the ship starts with, but neither me nor the bots can't use it. The bots tell me they can't charge it due to lack of ammu.

Thanks for the feedback Hinny! I did consider the price to be a bit off especially compared to the Dugong. As I wanted this sub to be the beginner friendly version, I figured the 500mk cheaper price tag might come into effect if they ever adjust your starting money to be affected by your starting sub price.

I have tried to reduce the amount of starting equipment a bit as well and can take another look over to see if I can pair down a bit more as well.

The idea behind the toolbelts is to have one for each crew member on a full capacity sub. Because these aren't as useful to give to each crew member for single player, I like to think of them as an option to buy an extra crew member at the start of a campaign if the player so chooses.

You did a very good job with this sub! I like that you created an entire model series with similar design.

If you are open to suggestions, I have some feedback:
I can understand that you would want to make this sub stay under the 6000 limit for single player starting sub reasons, but the price of this one seems very low, though, compared to what you get. It basically beats the Dugong in every category but still is cheaper. Even got the full suite of fabricators.

Maybe dial down the starting equipment a bit? I like the idea of the pre-populated toolbelts for "grab and go", but they are worth more to sell than the whole sub cost to buy!

Glad to hear it! I hope you enjoy the Palestar II just as much :)

Cool, and okay! Love the sub, made the early-game a heck of a lot easier. Just graduated to the Palestar 2!
