Serenity - Firefly (Survival Ready)

Description
*03-K64-Firefly*

Thank you to Last Stand Gamers for featuring my ship!

Grid is a station if you paste in creative mode. You'll need to convert to ship in the control panel to fly it.

This is my recreation of the ship Serenity, using version from feature film, which had different interior colors, and design (especially in the hangar bay and bridge), as well as larger more intricate engines, thicker neck, and improved landing gear (not included). There were actually three different 3D models used throughout the live action series.

The ship is no-mods, survival-ready, and capable of landing in 1G if not overburdened with cargo. It uses a lot of H2 so try not to loiter in atmosphere too long. If you paste in gravity, make sure you rotate the engines to vertical mode before converting to ship (hotkey group 1, numbers 3 and 4).

The engines are subgrids so while it is survival-ready, you'll have to reconstruct the engines manually if you print this in survival. The ship cannot fly in atmosphere if the engines were fixed only in forward direction. I attempted to add hinges to the engines to have them tuck under the wings when parked, but they were extremely floppy no matter what force or share tensor settings I tried. Trust me I really wanted them to do that, but it would have involved using landing gears and timers to lock parts and would have been an ugly mess.

This version is best suited for roleplaying, as I've painstakenly crammed in as much detail as possible, at the sacrifice of cargo container space, and hydrogen capacity. I also added a couple spaces that were not shown in the show like the gangways up to the shuttles, the airlock hallway that is under the neck, and the maintenance hallways that are behind the 2 upper catwalk doors in the cargo bay. There are some continuity errors between the interior seen on set, and the dimensions of the 3D model that I had to contend with. One of the most notable is the lack of steps going down into the aft where the medical bay is.

Sorry no shuttles! I do have a small grid Mule WIP, although it has a hard time fitting through that hangar door.

I chose Whip's subgrid thrust script instead of the popular vector thrust script for controlling the engines due to a number of complications that made the dynamic engine rotation cumbersome, and unreliable. With Whip's the engine controls are simple rotor reverse and lock hotkeys. I also chose not to model moving leg subgrids because anything like that would be non-stop clang.

Thanks to ArcaneData for being the first to do a quality job at bringing Serenity into SE and for the inspiration.

This is my favorite ship, but I paste it and no flying takes place. Is NOT a station, It is NOT stuck to the ground. It is a ship, engines rotated vertical as per instructions. tried to lift, there is dust everywhere, engines roar but nothing happens. I have paste it 4 different times. I gave up. If somebody knows what I"m doing wrong, Please chime in!

You Did an amazing job on this! It is Beautiful! I have Taken it apart and recreated it on Xbox SE. Are you ok with me putting it on that workshop? And using it in YouTube videos?

Yes Sir! Right smart purchase this vessel! Tell you what. You buy this ship, treat her proper, she'll be with you the rest of your life

I love your ship! As many have said from what I see in the comments, you freakin nailed it!
Thank you so much!

[P.S.]
Definitely recommend a Hydrogen Thruster Efficiency Mod to anyone else wanting to use this as a survival ship, that way you don't have to gut the interior for fuel storage.

As a fellow Browncoat, this is beautifully done. Thank you.

That would be rad -- you have a great eye for matching the lines of the ship!

You could also replace the kitchen/dining LCD panel light with an actual light panel. FWIW, I remembered the hangar stairs as being closer to single-file from a few Firefly episodes (at least from the shuttle docks), so I compressed the full-width stairs into half-width stairs. In SE terms it might be more playable to keep the full-width stairs though, since any kind of angle in a planetary grav well tends to get the player hung up when trying to walk on half-stairs.

Glad you guys enjoy it! I should really look into redoing the interior with the new armor shapes that have come out since I made this ship.

Works great with Frightfx's endo shuttle, Inara shuttle, and Mule hover cargo ship. Their shuttle designs require thruster damage turned off though. I've rebuilt the Mule to be lighter and use only vanilla atmo, and put a hinge in the Serenity's hangar ceiling; good for recharge, but not piped up with conveyors. The catwalks give access to all the cargo points though. The Mule also works great with Klime's harpoon mod instead of the blast door block claw.

I might try to rework the shuttles for some more PCU/block efficiencies b/c they're kind of PCU-expensive. Only for RP really. Great design though!

I've been cruising around in survival with this ship and still can't get over how well you laid out the interior per source material. I kept the internal dimensions the same, but have extensively replaced ALL the conveyors plus a few light armor floor blocks with either small cargo blocks, O2H2 generators, or small H2 tanks. Added about 16 small H2 tanks, so now it can hover in 1G for about 80 minutes on hydro alone. There are now 63 cargo blocks, or equivalent to approx 2.3 large cargo containers. Not enough up thrust to fly fully loaded in 1G.

One hard hit will vaporize this poor thing, but otherwise it's great for running non-combat jobs around the 'verse.

Hey! Im having alot of trouble connecting the sidepod thrusters with the rotors and its driving me crazy. Rotors dont want to fit in the small hydro tank to the big hydrogen tank when its all fitted if you get what im saying. other then me probably being an idiot , this is an amazing copy of serenity
