ICM Raihani - modified Siren-class frigate

Description
The ICM RAIHANI is a retrofit of the KMI Siren-class frigate, created by Papple2. It has been extensively modified to serve for my personal needs.

This ship was heavily inspired by "The Expanse" novels and tv-series and comes with many design-elements from this fandom. This includes an interior that is aligned perpendicular to the main source of thrust. The thruster-layout also leans heavily towards a 'flip-and-burn'-style of piloting.

The RAIHANI was created for and is being used on our survival-server. It is fully conveyored, thruster-damage compatible and uses no mods. Some scripts are preinstalled, but aren’t necessary to run the vessel. In favor of a hassle-free gameplay and easier repairs, this blueprint also comes without any subgrids.

Attention: However, since this is my personal vessel, it is specifically shaped to my own preferences and might not meet your requirements for a survival-ship.

For the latest revision I’ve also installed DLC-blocks. From like… all of them. So if you want to use this ship without owning the DLCs you will have to fill a lot of holes as well as put in a whole new floor for every deck. Sry for this, but once again: This is my personal ship and every design-choice was only made for myself. But I haven’t forgotten about you guys who don’t own and don’t want to buy the DLCs: There’s new stuff coming for you too in the near future!

retrofit overview
Being a modification of another vessel, this frigate-variant comes with an all hydrogen-conversion and is capable to land on vanilla planets and moons. Armament has been reconfigured to a less offensive potential in favor for more gatling turrets with a good 360° coverage since the RAIHANI is mostly fighting packs of small crafts and drones. For protection, the forward bulkhead has been reinforced and two nacelles carry a pair of decoys connected to repair-welders to redirect incoming fire away from the main weapon battery.

  • Thruster conversion
The Siren-class received a full thruster-conversion from a mixed setup to a full-hydrogen layout. The allows the Raihani to maintain her agility while carrying extra-weight and also using less overall maneuver-thrusters. The ship is also capable to land on and lift off from vanilla planets and moons.

  • Interior redesign
In conjunction with the thruster-conversion the ships conveyor-network had to be re-routed. Several key-components were relocated as well, so the whole vessel was hollowed and the interior was renewed from scratch.

  • Armor layout
In result of multiple battles, both against AI and other players, the Raihani received an armor-overhaul in key-locations. This includes some heavy armor reinforcements to the forward bulkhead as well as some light multi-armor layers where possible without impacting the ships weight to much. Additional turret-hardpoints were incorporated as well, resulting in some redesigns in the ships outer hull. Overall the Raihani grew in size by one block in length and two in width.

  • Armament
The forward-facing rocket launchers have been reduced from 8 to 6, missile turrets have been relocated and two additional gatling-turrets were installed.

Author’s note
I’ve been a big fan of The Expanse pretty much since the TV-Series was launched. While I’m still catching up with the books, I’m more and more falling in love with the story and the designs of this fandom. And like some other creators I’ve started to apply the shows spaceship-designs into my own contributions - like the Angurvadal Destroyer. When designing this vessel, I’ve learned a lot by using Papple’s KMI designs as a reference in terms of size and layout. If you’re into Expanse-themed warships, I seriously recommend you check out his workshop-page. You’ll find anything from light corvettes, various frigates and cruisers up to big-ass battleships that will melt your PC.

While working on the Angurvadal (and several other ships), I had a Siren-class nearby - a very nice, well round up frigate, that I instantly fell in love with. Initially parked there as a scale-reference, I soon started tinkering around with it, whenever I got stuck with one of my designs. A full hydrogen-conversion followed, as well as a redesigned interior. I even started to test PDWs on it. I gave her a new paint job and eventually brought her to our server, to replace the ridiculously overpowered - and therefore quite PCU-heavy - Angurvadal. From there on I kept improving her under live gameplay. Modular Encounters and some PVP action put the frigate under a heavy stress test, so I started to revamp her once more. And while was at it, I also included the new small hydrogen-tanks into the build and made some cosmetic changes with the SOTF-DLC-Pack. Now that I’m done with the next revision, I want to share the ship with the world. Big thanks to papple who gave me his permission to do so!

As it happens, I'm currently working on an update for this ship. Will likely publish it as a Mk2, but it's still a week or two away before it's ready for the workshop.

Yo @Taidyr,
This ship is like almost 5 years old, but the bones of this ship are perfect. With how many updates SE has had in that time, will we see an updated MK2 version in the future? I know your likely testing builds in SE2, but It would be awesome to see this masterpiece updated to current blocks and DLC.

@pobblebonk: Thanks for the feedback! Very interessting modifications you got there.

The side-ports where actually intended for rotor-turrets (see the progression-screenshots) but I could not come up with a setup that satisfied my needs and wasn't destroyed almost instantly in combat. But it's still ready to receive PMWs or modded weapons just by replacing the connector.

The font is called "Protomolecule" and can be found here .

@silver.talon: Thank you! Happy to hear you enjoy the ship! I've got a few Expanse-themed builds in the making but the next one to be finished will be most likely another frigate - more focused towards PVP combat and without DLC-blocks.

Hey @Taidyr,
This design is by far the best expanse frigate on the workshop. Its great on balance, versatility, and firepower. I run a special ops command faction on my server and this beauty shines. I have no advise, questions or concerns, I'm merely curious as to when we'll get to see your next project in the Expanse universe?

Also I gotta add, I think if this is your new personal ship after transitioning from the Angurvadal, I think that this is a smart move. Certainly a much more streamlined silhouette, and those side landing pads are in the perfect place and just snubby enough to offer a superb platform for ship modifications like large rotor turrets or like in my case nacelles. Good job, new fav dickship.

What is the font of the deck level LCDs? I wanna recreate it in white so I can change the color to green for myself instead of it being stuck on orange. Doing my own little modification.

Downloaded, messed with... I really like this!

Hello @Kitty Lee,
I'm happy to hear my ships meet your standards and I hope they'll continue to serve you well. Unfortunately though, neither your name, nor Richard or the RNR Imperial Company ring any bells for me and I'm not familiar with your process of reviewing and testing designs.

I'm aware that I might sound like a d*ck here. But please understand that I get requests for collaborations on a regular basis and it usually turns out to be someone who presents me a flying shoebox, poorly thrown together and covered in guns, then asking me to make it look pretty - of course without sacrificing durability, defense... whatever.

And I'm sorry to say that but regarding your statement that you've been following my progress and deemed me worthy to utilize your research, I just don't see anything on your own workshop or profile that can make me think the same way about you and convince me, that this request is any different. So I have to respectfully decline your offer at this time.

We have yet to examine this creation, Richard will do it soon and we'll lost all the flaws we find.
Kitty Lee Aug 12, 2020 @ 6:11pm
Hi Taidyr, I'm Ricky/Kitty from a small group known as the RNR Imperial Company. Well, allow me to give my context. RNR is primarily just me and Richard, so we extensively test and over-engineer everything before we consider adding it to our arsenal. Generally nothing we find on the workshop or YouTube comes anywhere near our standards, our main priority is durability - what you call defense - and from our research almost no one actually understands the full potential of designing vessels to be able to shrug off damage. We've followed your progress and tested quite a few of your designs and were surprised at how well a couple can take damage and how well others ward off missiles. We've decided it would be beneficial if we shared some of our armor tech with you. You're the only one so far we deem worthy enough to utilize my research. We're excited to collaborate with you, if you're willing.
