VTE - Variations specifically is the issue, since it normally doesn't support non-standard station sizes. Luckily, I found it already has support for "High Tech Laboratory Facilities (Continued)', which is one of the mods this one is based off of, so all you have to do is add this mod to the VTE-V patches(ProductionPatch.xml for hi-tech research bench, MiscPatch.xml for comms console and multi-analyzer) so it detects this mod too.
Basically, just search for "High Tech Laboratory Facilities (Continued)" in those xml files and add this mod to the list right under each patch operation.
Ie.

<mods>
<li>High Tech Laboratory Facilities (Continued)</li>
<li>Hospitals Extended</li>
</mods>
Now you can 'Choose Graphic' for the Hi-tech research bench and the first one will be the proper size and have the new black texture, etc.

Please note that this is a early Version for 1.5
- removed Medical IV's

There should prob. be changed more, i just updated it to make it work again as i was playing myself a little again, so feel free to report anything wrong, fixes or suggestions.
