Historical Ships of US Navy: A Two Ocean Fleet
By Kåra
This guide is if you want to recreate the historical US navy - or are like me and never know what to build - in HoI4.
The United States Navy ended the war as the worlds largest and most powerful navy - a title they have stubbornly clung to since then.
A grand total of over 1200 ships in all sizes was built; growing from 244,000 (1941) to over 2 million personell (1943) working in the navy.

Operation and doctrine
Battleship doctrine
Like all other navies in the inter-war period, the US Navy supported the Mahan doctrine, which eventually proved to be invalidated by the advent of airpower after the air-raid on Taranto and Pearl Harbor in 1940/1941. But, until then, the Battleship was an essential part of any navy as the theory of "Decisive battle"; one titanic clash that renders an opposing fleet decimated and unable to contend any longer for naval supremacy - was the view of the day.
The battle fleet was still an essential component of the US naval planning going into the war. But as the war turned, airpower became more important to tighten the stranglehold on Japanese Island garrisons, and the battleships faded in prominence. At the end of the war - it was nothing more of an oversized and over-glorified carrier escort (resulting in the cancellation of the Montana Class battleships).

Destroyer doctrine
The US started in 1942 to produce Destroyer Escorts with the sole purpose of protecting convoys from Japanese and German submarines. These ships had small calibre guns (only 3") to protect against aircraft but were heavily armed with modern SONAR and ASW-equipment.

Submarine doctrine;
The submarines, also known as "fleet submarines", was supposed to follow the main battle fleet, like the air-arm, harassing and exhausting the enemy before "The Big Clash". In practice, however, after the destruction/incapacitation of "Battleship Row" at Pearl Harbor, the submarines had no longer any capital ships to follow; thus, they began acting independently - with the result of sinking more tonnage of Japanese warships than any other ship type of the war - including the carriers!
Aircraft Carriers (CV)
Fleet Carriers
Two of the most significant differences between Japanese and American aircraft carrier design were reliance on RADAR technology and an armoured flight deck (a flaw Japan fixed later in the war, but too late to make a difference).

Carrier Doctrine
The airwing was supposed to do surveillance and harassment leading up to "The decisive battle". However, as the attack on Taranto and Pearl Harbor would show, large warships were very vulnerable to air attacks from torpedo- and dive-bombers..

North Carolina Class
Completed: 2
The first new battleship built since 1923. The ship originally called for 14in guns due to the Naval Treaty, but due to "escalator clause" it was upped to 16in guns.
Divirging from previous US battleship design it prioritized firepower over protection and speed.

Fleet Destroyers (DD)
Note on destroyer configuration; many American destroyers went through refits during their service during the war. The blueprint listed below is from when the ship(s) was initially built, but due to the tediousness of refitting every ship, having better depth charges and AA than is listed here may be recommended for game purposes.

to be honest i don't use HCruisers, but i use the mess out of Light Cruisers and they get it done,my fleets are normally 2 BB , 10-12 LC , 24 Destroyers, Destroyers loaded with anti mine, sub and air and a single torpedo with radar and sonar, LC straight up gunfighter and sonar and radar and a anti-sub weapon, BB 3 to 4 main guns and the rest 5" duel guns and try to stay over 27 knots, radar and fire control

they so stubbornly cling to it cause it's kind of true. I mean China may have the ships, but they're all outdated.

I think you could have diversified the Fletcher Benson and Allen M Sumner classes

It seems that you may have missed out the Gleaves Class Destroyers
