Description

The Cv-02 Shortsword is an assault corvette, designed for escort duty, full-fleet battles, strike missions, and a variety of other engagements against enemy vessels of all size classes. The Shortsword's versatility and relatively low production and upkeep costs make it ideal for use as the workhorse for any client, from small independent operators to interstellar governments and corporations.

Although heavier than many similarly-sized vessels, the Shortsword compensates with much higher battlefield survivability and a unique array of weaponry capable of tackling threats of all shapes and sizes. Additionally, though strongly-built, the Shortsword does not compromise on speed or maneuverability, being equipped with several gyroscopes and an integrated gravity drive that provides immense acceleration, allowing pilots to swiftly engage enemy targets, as well as providing an easy way to evade any situation where engagement proves to be unfeasible.

Although small, the Shortsword packs a formidable set of armaments for its size:
  • 1x Gravitic Accelerator Cannon: The ship's centerpiece is a powerful gravitic accelerator cannon (colloquially known as a railgun). In addition to providing a source of propulsion, the cannon's ten separate gravity generators (each providing one g of acceleration) serve to launch a specially designed armor-penetrating explosive round at an incredible velocity, capable of piercing the strongest of armor, and heavily damaging, crippling, or even destroying most targets.
  • 6x Custom Turrets: Along the Shortsword's dorsal and ventral sides are six custom-built turrets, each with six builtin Gatling guns and two reloadable rocket launchers. This mix of heavy and light firepower allows for the targeting and destruction of targets of all sorts.
  • 4x Point Defense Turrets: Mounted on each wingtip decoy pod, as well as on the two rear engine clusters, are several manually loaded point defense turret, capable of intercepting missiles, meteors, and enemy spacewalkers.
  • BONUS: 4x Interior Turrets! Protect yourself and other crew members from unwanted intruders and unauthorized personnel.

Apart from its extensive weapon arrays, the Shortsword comes with several other high-end features built-in:
  • Gravity Drive: Utilizing the same gravity generators as the railgun, the Shortsword's integrated gravity drive is capable of providing up to 20.5m/s/s (2.1g) of forwards acceleration, allowing for quick entrance into battle, and near-immediate exfil from any situation where continued presence is inadvisable.
  • Automatic Airlocks: Never again will you need to remember to close the door behind you. The Shortsword does it automatically. Additionally, both airlocks are equipped with their own pressurization systems, minimizing atmospheric loss at a minuscule cost to cycle time. Thanks to Blarg's Aggressive Airlocks, airlocks and doors open and close swiftly and efficiently.
  • Radar System: Stealth ships cease to be an issue with Whip's Turret Based Radar, which handily displays nearby vessels on a large, easy-to-read screen in the ship's control room.
  • Furnished Interior: Though more spartan than many competing vessels, the interior of the Shortsword is both functional and easy to navigate. Custom navigational plaques and labeled programmable blocks help new crew members quickly gain their space legs aboard the ship, and the interior is highly compact, with nearly every available space being used for something, and all pressurized areas close together for quick access—no lengthly, time-consuming corridors! And once the ship's interior is reached, crew members can quickly get to business or rest! The Shortsword's crew quarters are both fully furnished and highly compact, fitting a toilet, shower, beds for a crew of three, a kitchen, and a survival kit within a tiny footprint. The Shortsword is ready for long-term missions.

The Shortsword was designed to serve as a replacement for the aging Viper Corvette class. Originally designed for use guarding company assets for Alterae Engineering’s various departments, it was quickly realized that such a versatile, formidable, and easy to manufacture craft would prove quite profitable on the open market. As such, after some minor refitting, the Shortsword was released for sale in late 2319.

Dear reader:
Thanks for showing up here. I hope you enjoy this ship. Unfortunately, the holidays are chaotic and I haven't the time to write a full description right now.

Long story short, here's a synopsis:
- This thing only works in space. Please don't even try flying out in atmo, it won't work.
- This ship uses DLC, yes. But NONE OF THE DLC IN THIS BUILD IS NECESSARY SO FEEL FREE TO USE IT REGARDLESS. It will even stay airtight, though you might want to reinforce the windows in this case. Really, the only real issue is that you'll have to replace the catwalk stairs with regular ones. Relax, this is entirely doable and honestly quite easy. Also, you'll need to figure out something to replace the beds.
- Scripts. Please, please use this ship with scripts turned on. It will still fly without them, and the railgun and gravity drive will both work because they use timers. But the turrets will not, and you'll just generally have a worse time.
- The gravity drive is activated by pressing 2 from the pilot's seat. As it (obviously) uses artificial gravity, PLEASE STAY SEATED WHILE IT IS ACTIVE.
- The railgun camera is in slot 8, and the railgun itself is slot 9. It takes a few seconds to fire, and while it does the gravity goes wonky so again stay seated. In fact, both the drive and the railgun use the same gravity generators.
- Also, though I tried my best, the Shortsword is a tad short on braking thrust. The ship is *fast*, but it likes to stay that way.

Feedback is appreciated, I comment and whatnot, I'll have a proper description whenever I get the chance.

@5URG3 I'm glad you liked it. Maybe someday I'll get around to totally finishing the description lol. Say, question: does the resolution of the showcase photos look okay to you?

Great presentation, nice build!

Yeah no problem!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'll take it into consideration, try it out, see how it works.

Hey I think I've got a partial solution to the maneuverability issue. You know the parts on the arms by the railgun where you've got those white corner blast doors? You could replace the middle two on each set of four with ion thrusters so that you maintain that ribbed shape but add some desperately needed lateral thrust. As for your vertical thrust, I don't see anywhere that you could slap anymore thrusters down but maybe you can figure something out that keeps the shape and doesn't harm the aesthetics.

Yeah, you can only put so much in a description page.

And I am rather talkative.

There's a limit now?!
Alterae  [author] Jan 1, 2020 @ 2:20pm
Proper usage instructions can't fit in this description, I am deathly close to being out of characters.
