The Severn Mk 2 was the workhorse of the Uranian police forces for many years. The Mark 2's were cutting edge when they appeared on the market years ago; however, the venerable design had begun to show signs of its age. Whiplash Military Industries (WMI) received a task order from the Ardentralli Navy to refit several decommissioned hulls and bring them up to date with current technological advances. Thus, the Mk 3 was born.

The Severn Mk 3 inherits much of her distinctive shape from her predecessor, but expands greatly upon functionality and protection. The nose of the craft houses a quad of cutting edge "pinball" decoy deployment systems. This allows the Severn to deploy four decoys in a cross pattern every few seconds making it difficult for enemies to accurately engage vital systems.

The Mk 3 has also been up armored in strategic locations to protect critical components. Much care was taken to ensure that these improvements would not negatively affect the high acceleration that the Severn class has been known for. She is still quick enough enough to hunt down fighters and outrun heavier vessels. She also sports a brand new Jump Drive which permits the vessel to jump alongside larger allied vessels without the need for jump barges. The jump drive vastly increases the effective range of the Severn as she is no longer limited by the range of her sub-light drives.

Additionally, the armament of the Severn has been improved significantly. She now sports four automated Phalanx point defence turrets, each with eight 25mm Gatling cannons. This helps solidify her new role as an attack corvette as the vessel now has the firepower to punch above her weight. These turrets are also incredibly effective against fighters due to their sheer volume of fire. The Severn Mk 3 also has 10 additional exterior turrets (4× small gatling, 4x anti personnel, 2× rocket) to aid in target acquisition and engagement.

The Mk 2 was nearly devoid of software, opting for a simple, yet robust selection of features. The Mk 3 builds upon the feature set of the old version with a suite of WMI software, ranging from RADAR systems to flight instrumentation and status displays. Perhaps the most important of the software packages is the Automated Turret Slaving System which makes the Severn's rocket turrets and custom Phalanx turrets significantly more accurate than market standard auto-turrets.

The internals of the craft retain the same overall layout, with a few notable exceptions. The primary change is a ship-wide oxygen system. Previous versions of the Severn required crew to wear full pressure suits at all times. During combat, crews should still equip pressure suits in case of hull breaches, but outside of combat occupants can comfortably roam the oxygenated and climate controlled interior without them. Another notable change is that all levels of the ship are now accessible without the use of jetpacks. This was to satisfy an occupational hazard directive and reduce the amount of gear that crew members needed to lug around during shifts. Also, the combat bridge is sealed from the rest of the ship with a bulkhead door and independent oxygen supply.

  • Flip 'n Burn to come to a quick stop using the main forward thrusters. The reverse thrust on this craft is more of a formality than anything else.
  • When engaging targets, attempt to circle strafe them. I find this easiest by orienting the top of my ship towards the enemy and pulling up at a constant rate.
  • Try to keep the nose oriented at heavier targets whenever possible. The bow of the Severn is the most heavily armored part of the vessel and is designed to take hits.
  • Begin deploying decoys before you get into combat. This will create a cloud what will help obscure your craft from turret targeting.

This took me waaaaaaay too long to release. If you didn't read the above wall of text, this ship is based upon the AAM Severn Mk II by the great builder Dwarf-Lord Pangolin. This was one of my favorite ships when it came out over 4 (!) years ago, so I wanted to give her a much deserved renovation.

Also, the crew quarters used have beds. I've replaced them with passageways so that DLC is not required. You can easily replace them if you want :)

I hope y'all enjoy this ship as much as I do!

I'm not going to lie, this has just caused more questions...lol

Yeah I noticed this recently as well. The connector hitbox got screwed one of these patches, so I build the elevation part and manually attach it with a tug boat
