Description
Era - 1900s / 1920s - Boxing - Heavyweight

At first glance, the record of Fireman Jim Flynn seems a bit pedestrian. More losses than some fighters have career fights and a decent bit of knockouts in that category. But a closer perusal of Flynn's record demonstrates the bravery of a toughnosed brawler who fought as many of the best as he could meet in the ring.

Born in 1879, in Hoboken, New Jersey, Jim Flynn moved to Pueblo, Colorado, working on the railroads and joined the Pueblo Fire Department, working out of the Old Fire Station No. 3.(which is still preserved as a historical building) Flynn, noted for his hard punch and face first, hard nosed inside approach, took on World Champion Tommy Burns in 1906, fought the great Sam Langford multiple times and challenged Jack Johnson for the World title in 1912, losing his title opportunities. However, the most notable victory in the career of Jim Flynn was a knockout in 1917, delivered to none other than the Manassah Mauler himself, Jack Dempsey.
