Description
NO LONGER SUPPORTED

This mod is no longer supported and I have no plans to update it in the future. This mod WILL CRASH your game for any version except 1.1. If you want to take up the reigns, the source code is on GitHub down below. Otherwise, I suggest RimVali if you still want avali in your game.

Adds the avali race; small, fluffy, nomadic pack hunters with bad temper and a preference to colder temperatures.
This mod is a continuation of Eriss's mod
Supported for Rimworld 1.1
This mod is currently not compatible with Eriss's or Jaffer's avali mods.

The avali


Lore:
Avali are a technologically advanced race of small feathered space raptors. Their home world, Avalon has an average temperature of -35C (-31F), and instead of water, their planet is covered with liquid ammonia oceans, which makes typical rimworld biomes uninhabitable. Thankfully with their advanced technology they can live pretty much everywhere. Packs are a fundamental part of avali life, typically consisting of 4-6 individuals, which they treat as their family and closest friends. Loss of a pack member will greatly decrease the mood of an avali. In combination with their small size, fast speed and advanced technology, they're typically viewed as glass cannons in combat, often using run and gun tactics to win against their opponents. Eriss did some fantastic work on the Avali race in Rimworld, unfortunately they have stopped supporting it and allowed anyone to continue it as long as credit is given to the creator. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced with C# and can only edit/remove features which are causing bugs and add whatever is possible with XML. If anyone with programming knowledge wants to add new features I am happy to give you the files and add you as a developer.

I also highly recommend installing Avali Tweaks, which fixes a major bug where a resurrected Avali cannot join packs.

Playstyle
Avali are meant to be glass cannons in every way of the meaning. They themselves are small, therefore very vulnerable, but due to their predatory history, very fast as well. Their technology is expensive, requiring plasteel and lots of time to make, but also incredibly deadly. Run & gun tactics are advisable in the early game, where you run out to meet your opponents in the field.

Features
- Race specific thoughts, backstories, factions, traders, research, weapons, apparel, plants, food, furniture, work benches, turrets, walls, floors, implants, body parts.
- A custom "Pack" system, avali get a major boost if they are working in close proximity to each other. The type of boost they get depends on what kind of work they're doing.
- Avali weapons have DNA bio-metrics on their weapons, meaning only one person can use an avali weapon. This security system can be hacked at the research table, but it takes time.


Pros
- Can live happily in cold temperatures (-40C is comfortable for them).
- Their plants grow in the dark (with expandable plants mod they can also survive in up to -70C temperatures).
- Equipment is significantly better than vanilla items.
- Move almost 2x faster than humans.
- Less prone to mental breaks and better at socialising thanks to their communal nature.
- Most avali have guardian nanites by default, which increase their resistance to diseases.
- Can eat raw meat without penalties (canibalism and food poisoning still affect them)
- Avali lifespan is 120 years.
- Dodge attacks easier thanks to being smaller.

Cons
- An unarmoured avali can get one-shot by mid-tier weapons.
- Carrying and hauling capacity is almost halved. (Humans can haul 75; avali, 45)
- Avali can't survive in rimworld atmospheres and therefore must have life supporting equipment (comes by default in all armours).
- Some labour types, like mining and building is slower due to size.
- Can't survive in hot environments (default comfortable temperature is -30C, but hovers ~0C with survival gear)
- Due to their history a big chunk of avali are xenophobic (40%).
- Can't wear human clothes and vice versa due to being 2 times smaller.
- Their technology and equipment is expensive, usually requiring plasteel, therefore they are pretty weak early-game if not used smartly.

@Kosolaper I'm only saying that in concept to that the person prefers the style of pawns this mod gives out, not the style that Rimvali gives (which I think is pretty unique and cool and a step up from this albiet it does come with its own problems).

@Mismagius Well its likely was worked on at some point but was stopped, actually there is like "Biotech - Avali" albiet without most of their tech (so I believe), that you could get your hands on, Rimvali is likely your best bet for that unfortunately.

oh boy, at real shame to see this mod no longer getting updates, even from someone else as its no longer being worked on...and this was one of my favorite mods too

HAR is currently incompatable with genes from biotech so you may want to wait a while on that. Plus new way of handling graphics was implimented into races.

While I do not have a release date - I have managed to finally, despite 1.4 dropping, get the mod functional for 1.3 without DLCs.after a year worth of stuff preventing me from doing so.

@NesiAvali well ok then, if you say so. although i don't know if i consider so many avali arriving to my settlement a bug though. also just saying, i don't hate your mod, it does have potential, its just that...i'm not really a fan of how the avali look and not to mention the issues. that avali being invisible is something i've already reported and thats a mod conflict that can be easily fixed. but i do hope that there is at least like some patch that replaces the avali textures with these ones or something similar since i prefer this style.
