Ultimate Level Of Detail (ULOD)

Make use of your graphics card! Configure the LOD distance of trees, props, buildings and networks.

Updated for Campus DLC

This mod enables you to increase the render distance of detailed tree, prop, building and network models.

Take a look at the mod settings!

Comparison with LOD Toggler

Unlike LOD Toggler, the performance impact of this mod is very low. That means you can use it while you play the game, not only while taking screenshots! It also allows you to increase the render distance much further than LOD Toggler (10km instead of 1000m).

ULOD also supports decal props (used for farm fields, snow, pavement, tire marks etc.)!

Key Shortcuts

[Ctrl] + [.] to toggle "Screenshot Mode". It will temporarily change all three render distances to 100km (2.5km for trees to prevent visual glitches) without affecting your selected options.

[Ctrl] + [Shift] + [.] to toggle "Vanilla Mode" (all distances set to default).

[Ctrl] + [Alt] + [.] to toggle "LOD Mode". This is useful for asset creators to display LODs at close distances

To return back to your custom options, just press the same key combination again!

Recommended Mods

Random Tree Rotation: In combination with this mod, randomly rotated trees will be visible from further away. No more "jumping" trees.

Adaptive Prop Visibility Distance: The larger is prop/tree, the further it is visible! Ultimate Level Of Detail has built in support for this mod!

Camera Positions Utility: To take isometric screenshots (set FOV to zero and use very high LOD distance values)

Dynamic Resolution: For nicer screenshots. Because of the bad AA in CSL, buildings and trees look much more noisy. A higher render resolution greatly reduces this problem.

Compatibility with other mods

Unlimited Trees mod is fully supported.

LOD Toggler, as it uses the same key shortcut. As long as you don't use the key shortcuts, there won't be any problems though.

A note on decals

In the Campus DLC free patch CO added a way for us to adjust the decal render distance. ULOD now supports this feature! Previously it was impossible!

This mod just says "Error: Failed to load the mod's dll file, or one of it's dependencies" when I subscribe to it.

It looks to me everything works except for the pasture in the industrial DLC, I want the ultimate details of the animal, how can I achieve it?

For some reason I'm getting an error about a duplicate asset name for a vanilla Birch Park asset. Might just be me. Could be a conflict with something else.

I used this before and removed it because the game told me to, lol. This may mod may not be getting any updates but it just works wonderfully for my city of 104k+ people. I have a pretty robust PC but even at that pop and number of buildings the simulation starts to get jerky. I tried Prop and Tree Control mods and played around with the settings not really getting an increase in performance. I reinstalled this and it worked right out the box. Everything is running smoothly again, and when it stops... i can decrease some LOD settings. Thanks for this.

@Norrodar I am fine with EML+PA+TA. Since there will be no further modification in the base game, I will stay with it until CS2 arrives.

ULOD forgets the setup, so I have to set it up every single time. For example, if I had building LOD for 4000 meters, it has a default setup for next time, I have to change to 5000 meters to get the right LOD.

I would love to change to the new Visibility Control, but it is incompatible with Prop Anarchy.
