[G&K] Elcor Civilization

In 1 collection by Pluvia
Mass Effect Collection

Description
Adds the Courts of Dekuuna as a Civilization, led by Calyn.

Calyn is the Elcor Ambassador, the galactic representation of the Elcor. Like most Elcor, he is very even-tempered and peaceful, even to the stage where he expresses shock and horror at jokes of even mild violence. Despite this he is a wise a noble leader, capable of guiding his people to a bright future.

Trait: (Code of the Ancients) Double land luxury resources. -10% unhappiness. -1 movement for land units on land.

UB: Theater of the Elders. Replaces Amphitheater. +4 culture. Each source of Dye, Gems, Silk and Wine worked by this city provide +2 gold.

UU: Heavy. Replaces Cavalry. Armoured. 2 range. Penalty when attacking cities.

This is the fourteenth of our planned Mass Effect civs, the Elcor. War is tiresome. Why fight when you can enjoy the luxuries of the world? Even the fiercest of opponents can be tamed by them. Trade and share your happiness. Guide and shape the world with great luxuries. Show that true strength doesn't lie on the battlefield, but in the friendship and bonds you create between them.

So the Elcor actually weren't that difficult to design. Once it was known that their trade and economy is stable, and their culture is predictable but happy, it gave us the chance to create a unique civ based around happiness. We also knew that they were going to have some sort of movement penalty, which would effectively cripple them on the battlefield, so they needed something powerful to counter this. This all lead to the double land luxury resources. This gives them the opportunity to avoid the battlefield through trade and diplomacy, as the Elcor can easily form powerful alliances or settle foes with some desirable luxuries. In other words, despite their lack of tactical effectiveness on the battlefield, it would be unwise to underestimate them.

The UB is a culture and gold bonus, inspired by their love of the arts, and is early game to give them an edge. The UU is an armoured Elcor, which again comes into play slightly earlier than expected to help them out during those awkward mid-late eras.

Also, as an added bonus, the Elcor's trait is compatible with the More Luxuries mod. You don't need this mod to use them, but if you have it then they'll also get double of all those resources.

This is a dual project and we plan on creating and releasing all these civs (in no particular order) in the near future, and hopefully you'll enjoy them. :)

Troubleshooting

  • This mod requires Gods and Kings.
  • If you have Gods and Kings and don't know how to download or activate this mod, please follow this step-by-step guide by clicking here[forums.civfanatics.com].
  • If some, but not all, of the civs downloaded, then try exiting the game and unsubscribing and resubscribing through Steam Workshop, outside of the game. Steam just acts weird sometimes.
  • If you have a Mac then Steam Workshop wont work for you. Please click here[forums.civfanatics.com] and follow the instructions.
  • If the step-by-step guide or the troubleshooting still never fixed your problem, it's a common cache issue, which can be fixed by these steps:

    1) Unsubscribe from the mod. Exit Steam and Civ 5 completely
    2) Empty your mod folder (create backups) located at: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\My documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS
    3) Delete the 'Civ5ModsDatabase.db' file located at: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\My documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\cache
    4) Restart steam, subscribe, restart Civ 5.

Unless you want to add the completely and utterly useless council as a civ I think you have covered every single race/ civilization in the mass effect series until ME4 comes out.

Not sure what's going on, but I think there was an update to G&K b/c some of your custom civs are not appearing in the mod menu. So far I have noticed that the Elcor and the Quarians do not appear (even after updating them in the mod menu, unsubbing and re-subbing). Great work on these, btw, just wanted to let you know about this problem and see if anyone else has run into them.
