Iridescent Sea Turtle

Description
Iridescent Sea Turtle

Also known as the Iridescent Green Sea Turtle, this illusive and mysterious animal was thought to be extinct for over five thousand years and only recently rediscovered in the remote waters of the pacific. Watch as this regal specimen hunts its prey with both grace and deadly accuracy!

The nesting grounds of these creatures of shadow is unknown. In fact, only a mere five specimens have been found since their discovery in 1991; and only 2 were live sightings! Scientists think there may only be a few left, which has brought them out of wherever they have been living to seek mates. Marine biologists are feverish to find any way to help bring this uniquely magnificent creature back from the brink!

Scientists note a peculiar ability unique only to this species of turtle; they will swim very fast and fly out of the water, gaining a surprising aerial height in the process. Like most everything else with these turtles, the reason for this behavior is unknown, but some scientists have postulated these turtles may be in the process of an evolution to aerial capability! One scientist joked with us during this interview that they may even eventually evolve to enter outer space! But, of course, that could never happen.

:::: ABOUT THIS ITEM ::::

Painstakingly hand-crafted; modelled after the real-life 𝙶𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚂𝚎𝚊 𝚃𝚞𝚛𝚝𝚕𝚎 (Chelonia mydas), this creation can be hard to tell from the real thing when viewed from a distance!

Some artistic license was applied, including the name given and the fictional backstory above. Real green sea turtles don't have iridescent shells. Sadly, neither does this one, but I made it to look as though it could be. Given the proper angle and lighting in game, the metallic gloss of the armor blocks do sometimes illusion an almost iridescent quality.

Realism: I wanted this turtle to appear so life-like that you do a double-take when you see the pictures of it for the first time (if you did a double-take, you should really hit 👍 and subscribe.)

If you aren't familiar with the lovely Green Sea Turtle, I recommend looking them up 👌. Feel free to compare my work with the real thing. I believe it looks pretty realistic; all things considered, using squarish blocks.

I also wanted the life-like-edness of this item to be represented in the functionality of the moving fins and opening mouth, which I am proud to present to you as meticulously crafted into the body of the turtle so as to minimize as much obviousness as possible and appear as lifelike as can be done with vanilla blocks. If you took a look at the screenshots and are near dumbfounded that moving and working parts are built in to this realistic looking model, then I have succeeded in my efforts. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think!

The jaw was placed and created to function relatively realistically. This means that when the mouth opens, it will appear to open as you might expect a real turtle's mouth to open. To allow for this realism, it was necessary to create some give in the neck, so a portion of the neck will move with the jaw portion. Unless you are close and looking right at it, you may not even notice it!

Please note: Fins do not actively move at this time. They will loosely turn as the craft moves, however. Lack of rotor driven fin movement is due to the limitations of small grid rotors to displace far enough to have (in this case the front fin) blocks slide past each other consistently.

The interior even has some life-like features; modelled from real pictures. Most of the interior is filled with blocks to make the ship fly. Lighting was added internally to provide aesthetic affect, along with other interior designs I hope are pleasing.

I hope you enjoy this work of art, and please...

My thanks to the maker of the awesome skybox featured in some of these screenshots! (some post processing done) I recommend it and you can find it at:

Super thanks to the maker of The One Gravity Drive Script, which made it possible to create a work of art that can also move, without covering up the art with thrusters 🙈. You can find it at:

:::: Disclaimer and Important Info about Animals ::::
No actual 🐢's or 🐠's were harmed in the making of these screenshots... ✌️

On a more serious note: please remember, if you see a turtle in real life, enjoy it from a distance. Never approach or handle wildlife. Sadly, wild animals too often die after being handled or harassed by well-meaning people.

:::: For Your Information ::::
This ship is a piece of art... not the one-ship-to-rule-them-all 😂 (though maybe the one-turtle-to-rule-them-all). It can move quite well in space, but I haven't tested it in gravity, nor extensively in survival. It isn't built to have any purpose in survival. It can't do much but look pretty. Feel free to add systems you feel are necessary for your own use.

If you feel the need to leave non-positive comments, please critique based on the genre of item (Art), rather than because it can't fly well or shoot; which should be obvious.

Lastly, you may have noticed the stereoscopic images above. I made them to use the cross-eyed viewing method.

:::: 𝙆𝙉𝙊𝙒𝙉 𝙌𝙐𝙄𝙍𝙆𝙎 ::::

Complicated ships have quirks. If complicated piston and rotor use is sufficiently worked out, the issues are mostly due to bugs or functionality issues. I spent a great deal of time working out the kinks, so as to provide a quality and reliable experience, but there are a number of issues that are beyond the control of the user. Those issues are listed here, with the most likely resolution should you encounter any of them.

@| n f a m o u s , thanks, I appreciate that. Unfortunately, I'm dealing with some life issues of late. I haven't even played a game for some time, and not sure when I will get back to Space Engineers. This is a great game and I love building in it, but I just don't have what it takes to invest any time for a large project in the forseeable future. Unfortunately, life takes precedence. :/
