Description
This map is a remake of the Age of Mythology map called "Vinlandsaga". It is a 2-8 player map, generally played with 8 people as a diplomacy map with unlocked teams. Each player starts in the feudal age on a small island with 1,000 of each resource, 7 villagers, 1 scout, and a transport ship. The choice is yours to make whether you want to venture immediately onto the vast continent, or take a risk and stay on your small island for a bit to build up your civlization.

Tips: -A general, safe start is to send 4 villagers and the scout on the ship to the continent, leaving behind 3 villagers and advancing to the castle age asap, and then building a castle on the mainland to protect your colony.
--Fishing boats will be vital as your source of food, so sea dominance is important. Or if you prefer to not deal with sea warfare, you could take the risk of inhabiting the middle of the mainland, where there are more huntables.

-Note- this map does not work with the default AI yet as they do not build docks :/

We can go through this together if you would like and I can show you, whether 1vs1 or diplomacy.. My eco would be stronger than yours, because going into castle age takes 800food and 200gold. After that, like you say, depending on whether I need to invest in ships or build another town-centre to go into full boom or take out any threat in the water or both at a slower rate. There's nothing "very weak" it's actually the best eco when you have a lot of resources on these kind of maps..

Yes, Aging up slower when you have no resources to start with is a better eco strat, but this isn't the case.

What the heck are you on about? My steam level is 8, that's higher than yours, at 6? As if I give a crap about steam levels, jeeez.. Also I've been on Steam for 10 years and so levels is a very new thing that I have no interest in. My gaming experience? What on earth does that have anything to do with this? I'm not even going to get into that, but I will say I've been playing AoC on and off for that entire time.. I don't know how it's hard for you to grasp that last bit, but as I said, there is already an ACTUAL random map like this, it's called 'Migration', simply because you say this is a remake of an AoM map.. But it's actually a remake of the map called "MIGRATION", the only difference is you start with 0 resources of each and the main land mass is in the middle of the map with the islands all around it.

You don't even know what the costs are, how are you teaching my AOE? Haha.

It sounds like you didn't even play the map. And to conclude I don't really understand your final point but if you are saying that I copied this map from AOM, then YES, that was the point of the map if you just read the description because that was my favorite game of all time and stills is. AND ALSO if you would play the map, you'd realize it has a pretty different feel from normal migration maps as it is faster paced with more early aggression, which some people, like myself, enjoy.

cont..3.. There is also 1 very important factor you are not considering. Like I say in the description, the map is made for ffa diplomacy generally. So if you play "as intended" someone who invests in this early harass onto another's island, or goes for this fast castle rush will have very weak economy compared to someone who booms and just kills them off right after. So every player must balance macro with early aggresion so they do not die after they kill someone else. This is how you win maps like this. So staying on your island out of the early aggresions can benefit you SOMETIMES as long as you are not the victim of early harass. Either way, like any map this just depends on the other player's playstyle and you must react accordingly.

cont....You see my point, yes you might get an early water advantage but your macro would be terrible and you would quickly lose unless you got sizable harassing done on others economy. As for your water argument, if you are so worried about water just stay in feudal and spam galleys, you can outnumber your opponent on water, because he will not be able to make as many ships, or you can just go to the middle of the map.

I disagree. And seeing as your steam level is 0 it seems you do not have a lot of experience in gaming in general. If you advance to castle right away you will have a very slow go of it in the castle age. Whereas, if you made a few villies before you advance you would have a nice kickstart in the castle age and be able to keep on booming. Think about this it costs 800 food 200 gold to go to castle age. Not to mention you need 2 feudal age buildings, which is alot of your starting wood (1/4 'ish i think) plus if you build a town center thats another 100 food (i think? havent played aoe2 ina while now tbh) so out of the 1000 starting food you now have 100 left to use and this will all be spent on villagers, which will need to go to food for more villagers.

Why so much resources at the start? This really ruins the choices that would be open at the start.. Anyone not advancing quick and settling early on the main island would be at a disadvantage.. With the resources available, anyone can just quickly advance to castle age, pop a town-centre on the main island and collect wood and gold like crazy, then start pumping fire ships and galleons to control the seas, secure their fishing ships and you'd be luckly to excape your island considering you've lost the sea battle for failing to advance quickly.

Also there's already a similar map like this, called Migration. Nothing at all copied from AoM..
