Water Arena

Description
An Arena based map with a big central lake.
Player lands are divided by vast forests.
There is also a central island rich with gold.
Dominating the waters is the key to victory.
Map sizes smaller than Medium might make the island useless,
therefore Medium or larger sizes recommended.

Yeah.... I'm kind of happy they aren't. I get terrified when they build just one Cannon Galleon. Imagine they had more of them? *shivers*

Thanks for the comments. AI usually tends to stay in their base unless they dont get provoked. AI works but they are not much of threat after you crush their naval force. You can try to carve your way through forest with mangonels if you want more land action without naval invasions. Sadly AI is not very smart about its strategy when it comes to sea.

I really liked this map. Defensive, yet resource-scarce. Attacking someone must yield some result, or else you'll have to resort to making Trash Unit armies.

In terms of playing against computers, the AI hardly sends out land units. They will continuously raid your shores as they do in other water-based maps, but beyond that, they won't attack you. On the other hand, attacking enemies with land units is nearly impossible, since they have their ~40-ship navy just waiting around their base.

You could always cut through the forest, but that's time consuming. It has worked for me, but I did this just to pass the time as the Wonder timer went down. If you'd like to easily win, build a Wonder.

Mind you, I've only played with Hard AI.

I guess my suggestion, if OP would like to improve the map for the AI, would be to have paths of shallows that connect through the central gold mine location. However, I think that'd defeat the purpose of the map.
