PLAYING VIDEO GAMES ― Erin Morgenstern, The Starless Sea
“...You know how you have real-life time versus story time, how stories leave out the boring bits and condense so much? A long-form RPG has some substance to it, leaves time to wander the desert or have a conversation or hang out in a pub. It might not be the closest thing to real life but pacing-wise it's closer than a movie or a TV show or a novel.”

I mostly play open-world adventure games, flight simulators, building-management type games, real-life simulations, educational games, puzzles/mystery games, and virtual novels (with native speakers for my Japanese/English language study hobby), but I'm willing to give most games a trial, keep up with the new games if I can afford them, usually wait for sales.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is a very popular game with a huge fan-base. It has been updated with countless add-ons, player constructed mods, new worlds to explore, and fine tuning upgrades over the twelve or so years that it has been out. It's my favorite game because there is so much to do, with no set story line or path to follow, no specific order to do it in. As you work on one quest several more are revealed, making new friends (factions) but gaining even more enemies, no matter what you do there are consequences!

So you always have adventures to go on, you can help people out, help out the leaders in the cities, learning secrets about yourself that you never knew in the process, or just lazying about in the taverns enjoying an ale or two, listening to cultural music, maybe finding new contacts or flirting with the very interesting denizens of this magical Medieval world.

You start out in a daze, from mysterious backgrounds, strange things happen to you as you move about in a dangerous and challenging environment, it's an escape from reality, with some real life problems, controversial social topics, and dilemmas, living in a beautiful but dangerous open world. Play it anyway you want, dive in deep and be immersive or import other less immersive characters from other games, Movies, or TV shows, it can be very addictive. I recommend that you pick a few races and classes, trying them out by following the main quest until you find a few that you enjoy to play, because it's almost impossible to get all the achievements with just one type of character, and you wouldn't want to anyways, so you have to make a few different types, they each have their own set of problems, strengths and weaknesses, learn more about the game along the way, maybe even contribute back to the community by making a mod, a player home, a cheat, some playing tips, or even a completely new land for others to explore.

This is a simple to play guided sandbox factory game. It also has hints of the effects of Gaia, her gifts to sentient creatures, the beauty of the environment, riches, happiness, accomplishments, and how you could abuse them if you so choose. You're a pioneer sent by a major conglomerate known as FICSIT, you are obligated to explore, research, and produce products at your own pace without deadlines. You are rewarded by completing assignments with better, faster, more diverse equipment and buildings to help accomplish more complicated tasks.

You will learn how to turn rocks, wood, leaves, and a few other natural resources into computers, machines, electronic devices, and transportation vehicles. It's not completely accurate, but it's inspirational ideas that might just spark enlightenment for the player, moments of inspiration that they might use in real life. You will have fun doing whatever you like, and over come various challenges to complete your own goals, and the guided goals already installed into the game.

This is an early access game, with works in progress that will keep you interested in order to spend hundreds of hours having fun and enjoying the game, I highly recommend it, now go build a factory!

EDITED - I've got almost 1K hours playing this game since the beginning of the pandemic, and there have been a few patches which have made the game smoother and better. The fan base is very active on the discussion boards, some great ideas have even been implemented into the game, and the developers have responded to their feedback.
There are over two hundred mods available, so you should be able to "modify" the game to almost anyway you want it, even those that the developers will probably never put into their "gem", the player-base is huge and very active in the community, so why not join us in the fun, begin building a factory, die a few times, and find out what you did wrong on the discussion boards, you're going to be really glad that you did.

I hate this time of year, with all of those "quicky" horror games that come out. I wonder if it's because school started again, or because of Halloween, or maybe because Summer is over. The games are usually cheap quickies, low quality, short games... I don't like them, enough said. Happy Halloween, now get back to make a decent game that I can buy!

Just broke the bank! Bought Elder Scrolls Online, that should keep me busy for a long time. Bye bye, I'll be killing dragons or something.
