An NPC I had to keep alive spawned underneath a telegraphed lightning bolt and was engaged by an enemy, taking a hit. Not offensive yet, but this man on his turn:

-Punched the enemy for one damage
-Disengaged, causing the enemy to take an extra attack, taking more damage
-DID NOT MOVE OUT OF THE TELEGRAPHED HAZARD'S RANGE AFTER DISENGAGING, DESPITE TAKING THE ACTION THAT SPECIFICALLY ALLOWS HIM TO DO THAT AT THE COST OF THE ENEMY GAINING AN EXTRA ATTACK (he didn't actually move at all).
-Gets hit by said lightning bolt, losing 90% of his life total

Battle Brothers is better, and I also gave that a negative review. Hopefully the game gets better with time.

I don't know what it is about this game. I've played DnD, XCOM, and Fire Emblem all my life, and I've never had luck this bad in any of those games. I've looked it up and apparently all of the hit rolls are determined by 1 dice roll. However, my 324 hours and 15 or so runs that have gone to an endgame crisis just lead me to believe that isn't the case.

The number of times I've missed a 95% chance TWICE in a row and the number of times I've been hit by a 5-10% chance TWICE in a row are ASTRONOMICALLY out of my favor. It's something I've observed in almost every single run I've played, in at least half of the battles I've fought. So either I'm quite literally one of the unluckiest people on the planet ONLY when I play this game (I've been told by many that I have really good luck), or the game's mechanics are not as straightforward as 1 dice roll and are in fact geared against you.

Sure, it IS technically possible for these things to happen, but they are also EXTREMELY IMPROBABLE. And the fact that these EXTREMELY IMPROBABLE events happen to me at such an EXTREMELY CONSISTENT clip just is not fun to deal with anymore. Going into a Brigand fight with like 10 Brigand Marksmen specifically at night to give them a debuff and seeing my Banner Man get hit by 4 out of 10 arrows and bolts and die when he's behind cover and has anticipation with 25 ranged defense, all while all of those shots only had a 5-10% chance to hit, is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ abysmal feeling.

TL;DR It's just not fun taking every precautionary measure possible and still losing my best guys to astronomically bad rolls.
