Had never even heard of the series before this Remaster Collection was announced, but boy am I glad I finally heard about it and decided to pick this up when it was on sale.

I'm very sceptical of remasters in general, but this feels like a remaster done right - an old, almost forgotten classic brought back to life with an incredible graphical overhaul, gameplay refinements that bring the title up-to-date, the original versions of both games included (makes for an interesting comparison), and bonus content.

The game itself is a very pleasant surprise. It has a great story (Battlestar-esque, in that your world is destroyed and what remains of your civilisation must scavange resources while jumping through space, attempting to overcome the mysterious attackers who continue to pursue you whilst learning more about their motives) and this also allows for some interesting missions objectives/scenarios.

The gameplay can take some time to get your head around, because space battles are conducted in full three dimensions - not only do you have to worry about being flanked from behind or to the sides, you also have to worry about space above and below you. This opens up interesting tactical avenues, although battle planes are easier theorycrafted than actually executed.

TL;DR - A remaster done right and definitely worth a purchase if you're on the fence. Looks great, has an interesting gameplay hook, and a surprisingly fantastic story.

The first half hour is fantastic; finally an Alien game that does justice to the original film's sense of slowly built up tension and horror caused by a lack of exposure to the key threat rather than a blood and gore approach that's so common in most horror flicks and games. The interiors look amazingly like the film sets.

But then you meet your first few humans and the alien becomes a commonplace feature. Soon you spend most of your time in identical lockers and air ducts dotted throughout the levels. It just became a bore and I quickly lost interest.

Probably my favourite indie game from last gen. Great monochrome art style, macabre atmosphere, brutal death traps, clever puzzles. Short but brutally sweet.

Tough as nails but incredibly addictive - I just had to keep coming back until I managed to win a round. Great music, fun and strategic gameplay, really appealed to my inner sci-fi geek.

A very fun, addictive puzzle title with a cool gameplay mechanic and a quirky sense of humour. It also has a nice difficulty curve which makes it accessible to those not usually into puzzle titles.

I'm not a hardcore fan of the series (Civ V was my first proper Civ title), but to me as a casual fan this just feels like Civ V with a sci-fi skin. On the plus side that means it is enjoyable and you can easily sink hundreds of hours into it, but it feels very superfluous and unnecessary.

Managed to put the fun back into the GTA series after a poor fourth entry. Not perfect by any means but great fun while it manages to hold your interest.

+ Title sequence is inspired by the show's but utilises the game's own style (albeit this makes it a much uglier version)

- Really mediocre graphics
- Feels rushed
- Some facial animations are weak (Mira's especially)
- The writing is not up to the show's standards
- Unskippable 'previously on' intros, and unwanted 'next time on' outros
- Generally bland central characters
- A lot of dull scenes
- Illusion of choice that plagues all Telltale titles (there's only one outcome regardless of your decisions)
- Music quickly begins to loop and become repetitive
- Because what you pick doesn't matter, it means it's just a visual novel, which could be great given how amazing the universe is, but all of the above negatives means it fails even on this level
- QTE action sequences

Dull and egregiously overrated. Don't fall for the hype.

Dota 2 has its claws dug well and truly deep within me. It is my personal game of the last few years and I have a hard time imagining anything due for release in the next few years will eclipse Dota 2 in my mind's eye. If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about then you have no reason not to dive in – it’s a free to play title without even a hint of ‘pay to win’ - but don’t say I didn’t warn you; Dota is a truly brutal beast and ridiculously addictive.
