Helldivers is a great game about getting together with up to three friends while spreading Democracy and Freedom to planets in need of liberation from Insectoid and Mechanical abominations to Liberty.

The game is a great four-player cooperative shooter with a very simple but enjoyable concept of performing a primary mission on a map, clearing enemy spawners, exploring the map for Points of Interest, completing sub-objectives and collecting resources to gain access to new tools, buffs and cosmetics for future missions.

Visually the game looks great, the gameplay is enjoyable and the core of the game's cycle feels worthwhile.

On the less positive side, the game features a great number of bugs, both intentionally and otherwise- the problem being the latter of the two. Helldivers can often clip into terrain during their spawn from Hellpods, Citizens being escorted can often get their pathfinding stuck, Damage over Time effects like Fire will kill a Helldiver in less than a second, whilst enemies ignore all but the Host's effects, and the list goes on.

The game needs some time to fix the issues players currently face, but the game is heavily worth playing in its current state, if it were not for the newest issue to hit the game.

PSN accounts being mandatory. This is a minor issue for many players to be honest, myself included, but there are a number of players where PSN is unavailable in their country, thereby preventing them from playing Helldivers 2 once this change is fully implemented, without falsifying a PSN account and risking a ban and forfeiture of their Helldivers 2 Account.

A game should not require a third-party account to be linked to continue playing it months after release, this does not increase security or benefit for the player base at large and only serves to diminish the user experience as a whole.

For many, connecting a PSN account is not a big deal, but that begs the question, if it's not a big deal, then why force this requirement and inconvenience the majority of your player base, whilst completely losing a portion of it due to PSN availability?

Review will remain negative until the PSN link requirement is either backtracked or accommodations are made for players incapable of getting a PSN account.

Edit: Sony has rolled back the PSN requirement, I have updated my Review to positive to reflect this.

2nd Edit: Sony has not yet rolled back the banning of a vast number of countries from purchasing HD2 and has instead added additional countries to the blacklist. This runs counterproductive to the PSN rollback and still means countries wherein PSN is not accessible still cannot purchase HD2 and play it at this point, if you did not purchase the game prior to this change.
