Too bad, Steam does only have recommend or don't recommend. Otherwise this would have gotten my 'recommended to some' approval.

If you are a casual gamer, stay away.
If you don't like the Souls games, stay away.
If you need a map, a waypoint and a primary/secondary objective description to be happy, stay away.

I'm just saying because:
- the game is hard as f****
- the atmosphere is depressing, you're mostly alone or occasionally talking to sad/crazy/holographic people
- the level layout is CONFUSING, I don't remember being stuck like this and walking around in circles in any other game I've played, including all of the souls games ... and I played my first video game when Ronald Reagan was president.
- the game tells you jack sh't and most of the time you have to guess where you're supposed to go.

But, if you don't mind things like that you'll be extremely satisfied because:

-it's a pretty fresh setting (anything else would be spoilers)
-the upgrade system is decent and lets you develop different playstyles
-every killed enemy means getting a little better
-every shortcut you unlock results in a huge discharge of endorphins
-the game isn't that long and the second playthrough will be more pleasant because you have a rough idea where to go
-and second playthrough opens up a whole new set of upgrades for your weapons and armor
