[Post 2.0 Update impressions so far 2023]

Three years of patching, bug fixes, quality of life improvements, a sprinkle of DLCs, an awesome anime series, and a meaty expansion alongside a pretty beefy overhaul makes this game a solid 9 out of 10 now. While, it still isn't the life sim, lose yourself in a virtual world, like some of us assumed/hoped it would be before launch. It's now a nice solid fps looter rpg, and I'd say a diet deus ex when it comes to approaching missions.

The city is absolutely gorgeous, and the quests and npcs are memorable. After Starfield came out as it did, it just shows that while Cyberpunk had some rough *ROUGH* edges when it hit in 2020, CDPR really tried. They just bit off way more than more than they could chew (their first FPS, open world, gta-like game). Now 3 years later they have gotten the game into a state where I'd say its definitely worth the price, and Phantom Liberty looks to add more quality content.

The 1.5, 1.6, and 2.0 updates all took massive steps in fixing, and tweaking the game, and Phantom Liberty looks to have the same level of craftsmanship that Blood and Wine had for Witcher 3. I think the series now is in a MUCH better place than it launched with. I look forward to see what CDPR can do with Project Origin. CDPR now using Unreal Engine instead of Red Engine should help get the next game out sooner and hopefully less buggy. Maybe it'll be the world we finally get to be fully immersed in for a decade (think like Skyrim wtih mods, etc).

[OG Review from 2020]

I saw the trailer 8 years ago and then stayed away from any and all hype there after, so when I got the game, glitching aside, I enjoyed the quests and characters. I didn't watch any videos from the developers hyping up stuff, so I went in pretty blind just hoping for a Cyberpunk open world rpg. I came away satisfied enough to recommend the game with the caveat you aren't going into this expecting GTA Cyberpunk, or "the next generation of open world rpg" in mind.

I can totally understand how people can feel burned by this game. Its not a Cyberpunk GTA RPG (god that still sounds so cool....), its more of like "Open World Diet Deus Ex". As a fan of Fallout (1, 2, even 3, and especially New Vegas), I can definitely relate what it feels like to being majorly let down after getting hyped for a game. I disliked Fallout 4, it felt like a post apocalyptic Far Cry to me more than a Fallout game. So I can totally get the vitriol sent this games way .

I have wanted an open world cyberpunk game since GTA3 came out. I remember thinking, man a Blade Runner / Shadowrun GTA style game would be awesome. This game could have come so close, its hard not to feel somewhat like Obi Wan in Episode 3, "you were the chosen one!" when thinking about this game.

I still had fun, but man what this could have been. I've never played a game where you can almost feel the cut content like you can in this one, and that's really a shame. Hopefully its patched and fleshed out with dlc, if it has a turn around like No Mans Sky, or heck even Fallout 76 now, that would be great.

I want a good open world cyberpunk rpg. Nothing against Tolkien, or high fantasy, but I'm so..so...so sick of slaying dragons with swords and fireballs.... so I hope cdpr is able to polish this into a game they can be proud of. They have a history of improving their games post launch with their Witcher series so hopefully they are able to do the same here.
