Dark souls 1 is extremely clunky and it feels a lot older than it is, however, the characters, atmosphere, music, and story are all endearing and charming, and I can't keep a negative review of this game that I have now put over a hundred hours in.

Hollow Knight is my favourite game ever, and I have trouble shutting up about it. It's a great platformer with a beautiful hand drawn artstyle. The story is wonderful and there's a lot of lore to discover if you look for it. The characters are fun to meet, and their personality is expressed masterfully through their dialogue and that of others. Hollow Knight is a huge metroidvania that can keep you entertained for dozens of hours. The music composed by Christopher Larkin is lovely, and along with Ari Gibson's art and animation, each area sets a unique mood. The gameplay itself is tight, challenging, and fair. If i got frustrated, it was at myself for making a mistake rather than at the game for cheating me. Each new ability you find integrates seamlessly into your movement, nothing ever feels unnatural, and only on my second playthrough did i notice how many abilities were missing. William Pellen nailed the responsive feeling you expect from a platformer. I have encountered 1 flaw in all my time playing it, where in the city of tears i got stuck under an elevator as it landed. Restarting the game fixed this with no loss in my progress. I have also been unable to recreate this, so i assume it has been patched.

I never thought I'd enjoy a 16 bit indie game.
