One big bundle of nostalgia wrapped up in one big freakin' download. Switch between classic and remastered mode for the old school titles, enjoy the nostalgia with others in moderately-functional crossplay with an absurd amount of game types beyond the campaign action, and try to ignore the not-so-perfect netcode.

I'm a bit annoyed that we'll likely never see Halo 5 on here. But even still, for $40 I've more than gotten my money's worth.

Eh. The environmental destruction is fantastic. But beyond that, it doesn't bring anything new to the competitive FPS genre.

Was expecting something that felt more like a game show. Yet despite there being several game modes, they're all virtually identical to each other. Collect moneys, attempt to bank them, pray your team doesn't get wiped before the money clears. Apply that same formula to each game mode and you have a shooter that doesn't feel very fresh and lacks any sense of variety. Compare this to something like Halo that has nearly a half dozen core match types along with loads of variants.

I'll recommend if they ever add some actual flavor to this game.

PTSD Simulator 2021

Incredibly immersive. A rare gem in the FPS genre that puts realism above arcadism. The flow of battle is slow and methodical, yet the firefights are intense and chaotic. You'll gain a newfound respect for the Battle of Normandy when you're forced to storm a beach with little to no cover against an enemy with far superior positioning.

If there exists a more authentic WW2 gaming experience, I haven't found it.

There are 519,664 548,931 603,774 fewer zombies in the world that might've otherwise taken your face off.

You're welcome.

A very zen experience. Stripping ships down to their base components is far more satisfying than one might expect. The story isn't mind blowing but it's at least entertaining enough. I purchased this game quite awhile ago and let the devs mature it to its current state before investing much time into it. I wasn't disappointed, they definitely put love into this game.

My only real gripe is that there's little incentive left for me to play now that I've completed career mode. I'll probably come back every once in awhile to tear a ship or two apart for old time's sake, but unless they add some significant content, like massive capital ships or new game modes, I probably wont be investing too much more time into it. Which is okay, I feel I've already gotten my money's worth.

Amazingly atmospheric for all you retro freaks out there. And hilarious. If i could live in this universe, I would. The fact they made this a DLC instead of a fully fledged game is a gawd dang greek tragedy.

UPDATE 2/2024
Lot's of talk from the new dev when they first purchased the IP, with nothing but radio silence since. They've had well over a year to offer something, anything in terms of what they're actually planning for the game. Yet we haven't heard a word, much less seen any new content. If they can't be bothered, after over a year, to say literally anything to the player base, it doesn't bode well at all for the future of this game. Charging full price for it at this point, all things considered, feels pretty scummy. So I'm flipping my recommendation back to a no. And I don't expect it'll be flipping back.

UPDATE 12/2022
Changing my original review for two primary reasons.

1) A new developer who is very passionate about Boundless has purchased the property from the original devs. The guy who originally reached out to purchasing the rights has not only been active in the forums but active as a player as well. He's had multiple conversations with the original team and intends to expand on the original concept without destroying the core vision. I expect it's going to take a fair amount of time for the new team to familiarize themselves with the code base but I'm very hopeful about this game's feature in the medium to long term.

2) The economy is still flowing. This was my biggest concern when it seemed the game was dying off since it's one of the core pillars of gameplay. But the game has maintained enough of a population to keep the economy active. And I expect this will only improve once the new team is able to steadily draw in a stream of new players.

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic about where things go in the future but optimistic nonetheless. This game is a hidden gem with incredible potential and with the proper TLC it would be truly amazing. I've spent considerably less time on games that I've spent more money on. To say I've already gotten my money's worth is a huge understatement.

ORIGINAL REVIEW
Dead. A game with amazing potential that was undermined by poor developer management. When I was actively playing, there were massive metropolises bustling with other players, to the point where the largest guilds had to retool their portal hubs just to ease congestion on the servers. But now? Ghost towns without a single soul in sight. It's eerie. The devs regularly engaged in communication with their player base, yet they never really took the suggestions and concerns to heart. They failed to fulfill promises and they failed to expand on the great idea they had in place by expanding the level of content. Under better management, this game would have been really special.

Don't expect any kind of meaningful gameplay anymore. Without an active player base, the commerce and cities have collapsed and this game has reverted to a hollow clone of minecraft, with a lot less content.

Abandoned.

Note to self: Avoid these devs in the future.

I lost some serious respect for Bethesda after playing this lazy port. I've played a lot of VR titles, and what makes or breaks them is immersion. You have to feel like you're a part of the world in every way possible to make the experience enjoyable, but Fallout just doesn't pull it off.

My biggest issue is the firearms. Instead of having to manually reload your weapons yourself, like virtually every other VR game, you instead just press a button to reload. Want to feel the satisfaction of cranking that crank rifle yourself? Too bad. Want to feel the pressure of having to load a clip into your combat rifle and chamber a round mid-combat? Too bad. The devs were too lazy to offer even this much. What a shame.

The atmosphere, the story, and the general experience of this game will make you want to slit your wrists... in a good way.

The Termitary is the single most disturbing location I've ever visited in a video game. Pathologic 2 is every bit better than the original that I expected it to be, and then some.
