What is there to say about Skyrim? It's great, the last 11 years speak for themselves. In this review, however, I would like to praise the "Special Edition" specifically. Since I play on a laptop with a built-in graphics card, many games are difficult to run. However, this edition of Skyrim has managed to do two things at once: firstly, it makes very good use of the graphics card to get more performance out of it on modern systems and secondly, the graphics are beautiful but not at the expense of performance. You really notice the difference from the original version. The world is much more colourful, everything is more detailed and it is possible to sink into the world even more. The expansions make the game noticeably better and bigger.

I really thought about buying this edition for a long time, because it's "actually" like the original, but it's not, it really isn't, it's really worth getting this edition and benefiting from the many advantages (such as graphics, performance and the expansions).

The game is an ARPG and resembles Diablo 2. It is a pixelated small version of it. There are different classes, a talent tree, an inventory as well as rare loot. Unlike D2, however, there is no context or story here, it is pure hack and slash. But it is fun and takes place in beautiful pixel worlds with fitting pleasant music. The boss fights (I've only had one so far) are also fun and varied. I got the game now in the "Lunar Sale" for 0.69€ and you really can't complain. It will certainly not be a game where I will spend many hours, but it is suitable for a bit of variety in between.

I haven't played the game for long yet, but in this short time I am already very enthusiastic. Unfortunately, I won't play the game any more because it overheats my laptop. However, I wanted to write this review and say that there is a lot of love and detail in the game and so far it has exactly the right "Gothic feeling" (start weak, slowly upgrade and so on). As soon as I have a better computer, I will come back and play it again (maybe there will be an English or German language version by then).

Just like the second part of the Risen series, this game was not my cup of tea. It somehow doesn't meet the kind of fun I experienced in the first part. But that doesn't mean that it's a bad game. In contrast to the second part, the interface, the battle system and the general gameplay was much better. I think the game itself is great as an RPG, just not as a successor to Risen. Overall, this game offers a lot of content to explore and provides a nice experience. Therefore, I would not rate the game with a thumbs down. In the future I might like the game, who knows. So just try it out for yourself, have fun!

Edit: I tried the game again and I won't be able to go into everything here now, but to cut a long story short: I have completely changed my mind. The game is impressive. The open world offers beautiful landscapes. The story is interesting and well wrapped up in the world. There are many exciting quests that make it easy to immerse yourself in the world. The characters are charmingly designed and there are many allusions and Easter eggs from series, films and also from the predecessors of the Gothic and Risen series. The gameplay is a lot of fun, especially as a mage. I like many of the new aspects that have been added with this game. As already mentioned, I like the game very much, but I will leave the old review above, as it reflects my first impressions.

An established classic for all RPG fans.

If you want to play the game, you will need some patches:

- gothic2_fix-2.6.0.0-rev2.exe
- Gothic 2 Playerkit 2.8
- G2NoTR-SystemPack-1.8.exe
- (optional: DX11 Renderer)

The patches can all be found on the "worldofgothic" page. Have fun playing!

I played the first part of the Risen series just before this and unfortunately I am a bit disappointed. This second part is not what I expected. The game feels a bit like an MMO and is clunky in terms of gameplay, especially the combat system. I don't like the user interface either. Unfortunately, I can't say much about the story because I haven't played much yet. But I find that the beginning in the second part doesn't match my story in the first part. Anyway, if I give the game another try in the future, I will revise this review.

PS: If you can't start the game, you have to run the .exe file as administrator, at least this helped me.

The game offers an incredible adventure! No patches or anything like that are needed to play, which is very pleasant. The game's combat system is very action-packed and runs pleasantly smoothly. The user interface (UI) is very nicely designed and the individual items have beautiful artwork. There are many allusions to well-known films as well as from the games of the Gothic series. For spoiler reasons, I will not mention them. The game world is beautifully designed and there are many details. The size of the game world seems very small at first glance, but it offers many areas to discover and is very ornate. The story itself is very exciting. The character progression is very well done, because you don't need a certain amount of strength or wisdom, for example, to learn a certain talent.

A little tip at the end: As soon as you reach the 4th act/chapter, take lots of Nautilus transformations, levitation and telekinesis scrolls with you.

At first I hated this game, but then I learned to love it. I'm talking about the freedom in the style of play. I was very enthusiastic about the variety of spells. The main story is an exciting adventure. After I stopped the game in between, it often felt like a cliffhanger. It was comparable to an exciting film. If you plan to play this game, you need patience, interest and external help. The external help for me was the internet site "UESPWiki" and it was very helpful when I got stuck. There is no shame in getting some help. In the future, when I have played through the two expansions "Tribunal" and "Bloodmoon", I will revise this review. But until then, have fun with your own adventure!

The game is great, don't get me wrong. However, this version of the game does not have any of the DLCS. I actually bought the legendary edition in physical form (as a CD in July, 2017) from a shop, but it was removed from steam shortly before that. So I don't have the expansions or the other benefits of this edition. Because of this decision by steam, I will probably have to buy the special edition in the future to own the complete game with all the expansions, which is a shame.
