A great example of a game that was made by people who have no idea what game development is. Follow the main quest and you'll see exactly what I mean. Annoying platforming and just you wait until you get to "Minstrel" (you'll see other reviews complaining about that).

The game itself is fun, but its balancing and overall level design feel like they were done by someone who doesn't think games should be an enjoyable experience.

EDIT: Honestly, the story's good and the fights *DO* get better in mechanics. There's many grinding gates where you need to stop down and farm for stuff, but eh, it's fine.

About 7 out of 10 matches, you'll get a 'server disconnect' issue popping up.

The fact that you can not disable crossplay has ruined this game if you don't have 3 friends. With 3 friends, this game is great, but the moment you get a console player, it's over.

If you want to have a blast, get three friends and always focus their lowest scoring player. If they're not a 4-man in Strikeout, it's a blast.

After spending hours upon hours in the previous two, I bought this one and I have to say I'm having fun but I feel slightly disappointed.

The game's factions all feel diverse when playing, hitting the mark on what they should be doing. Kislev's units show how well they adapted to their harsh lands with a majority of them being hybrids while Cathay adheres to formations by benefiting when units of different kinds are next to each other.

The demon factions feel distinct as well, from Khorne's blood driven gruesome campaign to Nurgle's slow but steady painful slog.

The art style sure nailed it and it's amazing to see some of these models from Warhammer in the game.

The campaign though is very disappointing:
The realms of chaos feel like a chore with little to not reward. Also, the respective chaos factions still receive a debuff from being in their own realm too long. Why is Ku'Gath, greatest plague maker, affected because he spends too many turns in the realm of Nurgle! The first cutscene even shows him coming from there initially!

Now for the biggest disappointment of them all: The reward for finish the campaign, no matter the faction, is you getting Belakor as a lord. That's it! No tie-in with what your faction wants, no nothing! What the heck guys!

Overall, I like the game, but we need that Immortal Empire release to actually get the ball rolling.

August 2023 Edit: CA's decision to increase DLC prices by 150% (not to 150%, but by 150%. We're talking more than double in price) as well as other practices have turned my review from positive to negative.

The game can be fun, but what's left right now is the top players who either meme around or are godlike. The game is plagued with a lot of inconsistencies and cares so little for the wellbeing of its community that there is no report button.

If you enjoy seeing nothing but slurs in chat, going against people who have played for over 600 hours and a clunky UI, then this is the game for you! I got this game in a bundle on Humble Bundle for $5 and I still feel robbed.

It's more fun with friends, but even digging a trench is more fun with friends.

I can not recommend this expansion sadly. As much as I want to love Iceborne, the issues it has are too far reaching to be glanced over.

Where Monster Hunter World has proper pacing and escalation in difficulty, Iceborne believes that long fights are fun fights; They aren't.

There's a difference between making a monster challenging through mechanics and then making a monster challenging simply for the fact that it's health is so high that you get bored fighting it.

That is the main issue with it: the monsters have so much HP that you are stuck fighting it for far too long to the point where it gets boring. You're not engaged, since the fight goes on so long that you're just going through the motions with it.

If you want to experience the monsters of Iceborne, just go hunt an elder dragon with a starting weapon. Do that a few times, pepper in some cutscenes from youtube and you just saved yourself $40.

The game is on its last legs and will soon shut down most likely, I do not recommend you purchase this.

A buggy mess of a game that was released as an unfinished heap gobbled together and is still considered in 'Alpha' after having spent more time in development than entire franchises.

What started out as a cash grab somehow ended up as a half decent product though. If however you don't enjoy re-learning everything with every patch, having objects, vehicles and progress disappear and dealing with some rather janky animations then don't purchase this game.

It certainly becomes a lot more fun when played with friends, but that can be applied to just about any activity there. I can have more fun digging a trench with friends rather than doing it alone, doesn't mean I'll pay for the experience.

The game is a nice blend of RPG and third-person shooter. With a story that unravels as you play and several fun characters to play with, you're bound to get a bit of fun out of it. While the gunplay is solid, you're more likely to end up relying on a rock-paper-scissors melee combat system, especially when facing players instead of the AI.

I am glad to have received a response to my query regarding cheaters and would gladly recommend this now!

Top shelf.

2021 Edit: Came back to give it a try, the state is the same and those reports likely end up in a trashbin on some old email. Still fun but expect every 1 in 3 games to be ruined by a cheater either having 5 aleph at all time or stuff like that.

Sadly the game is on its last legs and as dead as can be. Certainly looks like it could be fun, but good luck finding people to play with.

The game locks you on the server based on your region. You can not play with anyone outside of your continent normally. I have friends from both US and Europe and we can't all play together.
