Theoretical Total Synthesis of C20H25N3O (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide).

Step 1. Purification of C16H16N2O2.

The first thing you will need is ergotamine. This can be obtained as a prescription headache pill; very easy to fake. There are two very simple ways to break the peptide bond that holds ergotamine together: water and saliva. The peptive bands will very slowly dissolve in water, and C16H16N2O2 will form, with a few waste products. You can also use saliva as the protease enzymes will break down the peptide bonds. Leave waste products together for now; we will distill them later.

Step 2 Obtaining C4H11N.

C4H11N can be made through an alumina-catalyzed reaction of ammonia and ethanol. Ammonia is found in household cleaning products such as older Windex (28% Ammonia) and just straight ammonia cleaner. Ethonal is best extracted from cheap liquor with high ethanol content, such as Triple-sec. Aluminum oxide can be made from aluminum foil, soda cans, or bought as filings on Amazon for a few bucks. Leave waste products together for now; we will distill them later.

Step 3. Obtaining POCI4 as a reagen. Phosphoryl Chloride is a powerful reagen which is needed for this reaction. It can be obtained by combining PCl3 and P4O10. To obtain the former, you will need bleach, ammonia, red phosphorus, a gas mask if you like your lungs, something to start a fire with, some yarn or diesel, and an airtight environment. The process involves burning red phosphorus in chlorine gas. Take extreme caution - this will scar your lungs if you are not careful. This will produce ample PCl3 for the reaction. Next, you need P4O10. This can be obtained by burning white/yellow phosphorus, or tetraphosphorus (P4), in oxygen. Combine the two to obtain POCl3. Release chlorine gas, it will dissipate outside; be careful, however, as it is still toxic to inhale until it dissolves in the atmosphere. Dispose of any other waste products separately, however there should be none.
