An old school tile turn-based CRPG like Ultima with a Lovecraftian "cosmic horror" setting replete with Commodore 64 aesthetics and very modern sensibilities.

Definitely try it.

This is just Fallout 4.5 online with other players. It's fine now*. IF you liked Fallout 4. You can still build stuff only now everything is locked behind completing quests or buying build plans from vendors. Or the stupid Atomic shop. Real GaaS sh!t.

Although there is "always hate to see it" level-scaling up to 100 which sucks major balls until you've reached end-game. And the kick to the d!ck and the balls is some level ranges are out-of-wack. Like "this pissant ghouls who use to die from two shots from my copper plated sissy pistol now requires a full mag dump are you kidding me!" type shiaot. YMMV.

The perk system / leveling is clear as mud. You don't have full information about the special caps and perk unlocks. Might want to plan your build before hand. I would also say always choose a full auto weapon. Be it pistol (no), rifle, or best: heavy weapons, with power armor. Just saying.

*Some quests are left flat out broken AF and it's some kind of sick joke.

A most faithful adaption of D&D5e. The combat and UI in this is better than Baldur's Gate 3, which feels weighed down in time wasting animation spectacle.

Like Icewind Dale you create the whole party.
Like Neverwinter Nights there's dozens of well crafted fan-made campaigns to download and enjoy.

The base game campaign is a linear quest chain.
DLC Lost Valley campaign is better in this regard with being more open and faction based.
DLC Palace of Ice campaign continues from the base game campaign for a high level adventure where you can import your characters including all their equipment, gold, crafting knowledge...

Crafting is...a surprisingly important mechanic. You craft primarily while traveling across the over world map which may take multiple in-game days. The very best equipment can only be crafted and never bought or found. (except in Palace of Ice) You need to find or buy the recipe and ingredients. There are finite and rare ingredients. This is not really a positive aspect of the game. I'd prefer the traditional dungeon dive and loot loop.

I would be remiss to overlook the low production values in the audio-visual department, but frankly, I don't care.

Dice action economy combined with worker placement, with very lite-RPG flare. Plays like a board game with character story beats.

It's pretty good.

This game is in an excellent place.
Just imagine Deus Ex in a Grand Theft Auto open-world city space.

Deus Ex exists in the ultra rare "game of the decade" space.
It offered "in a league of its own" situational choice.
And gameplay style in credible "immersive sim" environments.

But back in the year 2000 I got my legs blown off in the tutorial just like everyone else.

A super wall-o-text heavy CRPG/adventure game with day cycle / time limits.

It's all reading. Text. There are no avatars. No images of people or monsters you encounter. Only villages and slices of landscapes you explore. That's it. And yet I still have many images in my head.

Space Wreck is a modest adorkable CRPG with surprising depth.

It's a short game. 8-10 hours initially but easily finished again and again much quicker. You'll need to replay it multiple times to explore all routes.

Recommended for CRPG addicts. A note though it's very janky in more ways than one, and don't expect even standard production values. Although it's still actively being patched!
