you know it's a real shooter when your inputs look like you're having a stroke

This game is genuinely incredible. The first time I've played it, I became so invested in the story; so immersed in the world and its lore; so enamoured by the characters, the art, and the music; and so enraptured by the gameplay, its tightness, and its fluidity; that I could genuinely not put it down - Starting up the game, then playing it for 15 hours consecutively with little to no breaks.

Not a single other game that I've encountered in recent years has ever managed to hook me like Hollow Knight did. That alone is testament enough to the superb quality of this game.

Play it, you won't regret it.

friend gifted it to me and challenged me to stream it in discord, so like any sane and reasonable person i accepted the challenge. what followed was one of the most painful experiences of my life.

a friend invited me to play a bit of factorio once, i said "yeah sure why not? seems like it could be interesting."

by the time i realized it 4 days have already passed without me noticing: i have forgotten what the outside looks like, i am glued to my pc for 24 hours a day except for when i eat and relieve myself, i haven't had any interaction with another human being aside from the friend who invited me since i started playing this game - though he said he had work so i haven't talked to him in a while. i think i'm getting delusional from the lack of sleep - or at least that's what jerry the construction bot floating in the corner of my room keeps telling me. i don't believe him; after all, can a delusional sleep deprived person pour concrete over dozens of square kilometers AND build an artillery train system at the same time? i don't think so.

Quite possibly one of the best games I’ve ever played. Nearly every second was filled to the brim with nostalgia and those that weren’t were filled with amounts of adorableness so large that they were previously thought to be impossible. The gameplay strikes just the right balance between simple and complex that I would expect from a game of this type, the characters (even the bad guys) are lovable, the soundtrack is amazing: cheery while exploring the level, intense while you’re in a boss fight, suspenseful and tense while sneaking around, and when the gameplay is relaxed the music turns into a lullaby so gentle and soothing you wouldn’t want to end the level lest the song would end; the story is brilliant and the devs have done a wonderful job of telling it through the eyes of a child, and the whole game is filled to the brim with childlike innocence (well, most of it, but no spoilers!) to the extent of making you feel like you’re a child again, taking you on a huge nostalgia trip back to when you were a 6 year old kid, whiling the days away playing super mario or crash bandicoot or spyro the dragon or something else entirely on whatever console you owned at the time, and having that childlike sense of wonder at the most trivial of things and not having to worry about school or money. AHiT lets you have that carefree attitude and lets you be that happy-go-lucky child you once used to be, if only for a little while. This game takes your childhood, wraps it up for you with a nice little bow, and then hands it back to you as a gift while giving you a nice warm hug that makes you feel warm inside like drinking a cup of hot choclate on a cold stormy day.
AHiT is an amazing game made out of concentrated nostalgia. It may be short, but it’s nonetheless amazing and rest assured it will have a special place in your heart afterwards, the same place where all of your childhood classics are. This is a game you can pick up whenever you feel down and it will instantly cheer you up.

Go ahead, give it a try. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

EDIT 26/11/2017: I'm still playing this game, it's been a year since I wrote this review and the game is still as fun and as beautiful as it was back than if not more, I still get that sense of wonder that I got when I first launched the game. It doesn't matter how frustrated and bored I get from this game sometimes, and it doesn't matter that sometimes the game just burns me out and I don't feel like touching it for the next few days or weeks: because whatever I do, however much I don't feel like playing, this game always makes me go back to it, no matter what happens, at the end I always end back up in the pilot seat as if nothing ever happened and I think to myself "What happened then that was so bad that it made me get tired of this?". This game isn't perfect, but it's so satisfying, so rewarding, so amazing and so beautiful that it transcends its flaws, and if a game manages to do that, then it's a game worth buying.

EDIT 14/01/2019: a year and 1.5 months since last edit. Still think the game is awesome. I concur everything I said back then.
