destroyed the performance since beta to add a cash shop and no added private/solo even though the underlaying functionality of bots is there, feels like early access for a 'full release'

Overall when i played doom, both the singleplayer and multiplayer, i vividly enjoyed the experience i had with the game, though it wasnt without its issues like most games.

Pros(singleplayer):
-towards the later stages of the game the enemy variety and count was incredibly enjoyable making many different fights enjoyable to run around dodging claws and plasma
-again towards around halfway to 3 quarters throguh the game the weapon variety left nothing to be desired, especially when unlocking the chainsaw and the BFG
-the modelling and texturing was on point for the game, making everything look great (or bad but in the 'good' bad way) aswell as the gore and dismemberment making the game all that much more satisfying when killing
-in correlation with the gore and dismemberment the different glory kills, mostly, felt satisfying and meaty, especially when later on you can make such things easier or faster meaning you cna just rip through crowds of enemies
-the variety of the challenges and secrets that were scattered through the levels were thoroguhly enjoyable to find and collect, if your someone who enjoys scouring every inch of a level for the last secret you cant find, its for you (though there are also upgrades that help with finding them
-checkpoints are fairly forgiving, so you dont need to replay an entire level if you screw up one jump or decide to give a mancubus a hug
-probably one of the best parts of the game that made it so bloodpumping and enjoyable, the sound design and music of this game made every shot feel ncie and meaty while the background music got me bobbing my head all the way through
-with the addition of arcade runnign through the levels trying to beat your own, your friends and other peoples scores is fairly enjoyable with a few different thigns making it a bit of a different experience to playing the regular game.

Cons(Singleplayer):
-the start of the game can be quite slow due to lack of weapons and enemy types, if it werent for secrets and challanges i wouldve probably had a very boring early game
-if you arent like me and replay levels to find missing secrets and collectables or try to complete all challenges n such, the game can be quite short compared to a lot of other similarly priced singleplayer games

Pros(Multiplayer):
-similar to old games feels very nice and fast paced, spawns being fast (based on gamemode in some cases), running around is a great pace and the maps are really nicely scaled for the pace of the game
-nice variety of gamemodes, though many of them are the basic ones you might find in most other online shooters
-nice variety of maps, in the time i did play th emultiplayer i never particularly got sick of playing any of the maps or got them time after time
-character and weapon customisation is really nice and in depth, though its ashame it uses basic characters for multiplayer
-they recently made the multipalyer dlc free for everyone, so youre no longer locked out of content, thoguh it didnt really give those who had paid for them before hand much compensation from what i remember (though i dont specifically remember everything)

Cons(Multipalyer)
-small playerbase compared to many other multiplayer shooters
-althoguh i dont massivly mind the loadouts for the multiplayer, it would have been nice to have map spawns for weapons instead of them, some people might mind this more than me or not
-i found atleast for multiplayer, there were only really a few different weapons that were worth using, based on the how much range you could get fromt he maps, the rocket launcher and shotguns being one of the most common weapons i saw, seeing very little else

Overall id say that this game is wholeheartedly worth buying for th esingleplayer alone, i mostly view the multiplayer as a nice little bonus though if i were to choose id definately choose the style of much older shooters like the original dooms, quake and unreal tournament as some examples. if i were to give this a number score out of 10 10 being perfect, id probably say a solid 8, could be better but still an amazing game and thorouhgly enjoyable.

Early Access Review
after playing this game for a few hours and playing several matches, i just found no drive to play this game further. the main reason is that many of the game functions feel broken or tacked on whils most matches, training ones not campaign because i know they can be unfair, the game feels entirely unbalanced, for instance untill the third rank, all the maps, by which i mean the two of them your allowed to play on, are small cramped and, although they are like this are fun because it is balanced, everyone has similar weapons and are of the same rough rank, however once you reach rank three you are thrust into massive maps against enemies of much higher ranks, for instance, at rank three i was put into a match with enemies who were rank 12 meaning that they had much more powerful equipment and can easily kill you before you even get close. another problem i feel is that of 'classes' and the tanks, i play a german which from what i hear are generally moaned about being overpowered, however the first tank you get is one with a machine gun for a weapon meaning that it does nothing to armour, especially considering your up against rank 12's with rediculously powerful tanks to be up against. money in this game is however easy to get and can typically afford most stuff very quickly, however when i unlocked the tanker, which costed me 22,500 i played around in the match found that it was useless against anything but infantry who just runs when they see you so i went to change back to infantry finding that it costed only 2500, which is ok however if i want to use tanks of my own again i must pay another 22,500 to just change class which, in my opinion is a load of rubbish, i think(and this is how i think it could be not necessarily the right one) it should be done as more of an unlock system, so once you reach the required rank for a class you should be able to then pay to unlock it permanantly with a higher price to balance it a bit more, something like 2-3x the normal cost and from then on you can change class whenever you want. the only thing i would reccommend this game for is if you have a large group of friends you can mess around with, however as solo goes this game falls flat for me and i would give it about a 5/10, good concept, poorly carried out.

if you dont want details about the game such as alien types spoiled for you, dont read this.

alongside firaxis' other game series, sid meiers civilization, this is one of the best strategy games ever made. the different enemies introduce different challenges each time as well as the different class types thorough design. the customization is fairly extensive and fun to use. each time the enemy fires at one of your team ,especially with low health, it keeps you hoping for a miss or if they to loose all their health for you to have a medpack to stabilize them. each weapon is intricately designed with the later game ones being stronger, but not so strong that everything is easy since they sometimes carry a penalty such as decreased range, accuracy etc. the UFO fights are tense since they have a limited time, due to the UFO's being faster, for your interceptors to take it down whilst also being shot at debating whether to click the abort button to save your interceptor from being destroyed or whether you hope the next shot your enemy fires misses so you can try to get one or two more shots into it.
the base building/item construction is well made needing resources from missions such as alien corpses or the weapon fragements they drop, the game doesnt give you so little money that you cant get anything at the start, unless you get yourself into the stuation, but you are als not given so much that you can just sail through the game always getting what you want. each building you can build such as the laboratory is well designed due to the adjacent bonuses and their basic bonus is well balanced to provide strategic thinking for even just building things.each country you need to keep out of panic gives their own bonuses to the XCOM project and when trying to decide where to send a satelite entails deep thought, do you got to africa to reduce panic or do you go to america for the money, or do you get the last country on a continent to get their continent bonus such as 'all in'.
each mission has a unique map and number/type of enemy making for the need of different tactics, do you take the high ground with you troops to keep safe and get of better shots, or do you run n' gun your assaults down the middle to try and force the enemy into a retreat. Terror missions add the element of moral thought, do you rush to save each civilian at the risk of your own troops, or take your time to take out each alien you come across to reduce the chances of each civilian being attacked whilst putting the ones further away at risk.
the main downside with this game is the shooting, not on the chance and damage point, they are almost perfect, but on the line of site. many times i find the game very unrelistic due to when im using a sniper, the bullet they fire goes through my own team without making them flinch or going through obstacles that the bullet would be stopped by in real life.

other than that if you love other firaxis games especially the civilization series, or strategy games in general this is a must buy. £30 may seem like a bit much to some people but trust me this game is worth it. it provides the challenge that most people look for, but will also be good for other casual players because of its scale of fun even when being beaten by the aliens. my rating for this game will be a 9.8/10 that .2 being the wierd shooting you can get but doesnt impact the fun too much.

its not the most refined game out there but this is a must buy, the combat is at the difficulty where its not so easy that you just run around swinging your weapon but its also not to hard that you just die easily. its also humourous when it comes to the survival guide itself which adds even more fun to the game.

good fun game but does get boring if you play this own your own or with strangers, the level up system is a good idea but, for me atleast, seems a little tacked on. other than that they made a lot of improvements since the first game to make it smoother to play, servers were vastly improved since the first one(virtually unplayable in multiplayer before).
at the end of the day though, hats off to the guys at coffee stain studios, they have a good game here.
