It's a beautifully crafted game, although it's not perfect. It tends to to you about the more intricate systems while you're in the middle of shooting the place up, so there's a learning curve. Wild Hunt kinda did that but a little less so.

There's definitely a lot of content and replay ability, and it's all very cinematic. It's an enjoyable game.

Not sure how some "professional" reviewers can rate this at 6/10 while AC Valhalla gets 10/10. But I won't go there.

This one is a solid 8/10, maybe 9/10 once I get used to all the neon signs staring me in the face while driving.

Underrated gem. Wasn't sure about it because of the reviews at first.

I like the old and newer X-COM, big fan of Invisible Inc. as well. This game is like a mix of that.

Once you get used to the systems in the game it's pretty addictive. There's depth, and you really have to use your brain.

Also a big fan of the combat system that doesn't rely solely on the RNG but on actual tactical skill.

Typical Klei: an insanely addictive game.

A pretty difficult game until you get the hang of it. I was growing very frustrated at some point because my troops were seemingly doing absolutely nothing of value when I reached a certain progression. The duplicants would just run around like headless chickens, forgetting to power the oxygen generator, food machine, and generally just puking their guts out and breaking stuff.

So here are the main two pro tips:
- duplicants need a lot of oxygen. Don't grow your colony too much until you're 100% positive you can generate enough in a short amount of time.
- duplicants are not good at deciding what to do. Assign them to very specific tasks, e.g.: one builder, one cook, one delivery guy.

Once you have the tasks balanced out, the game is actually very rewarding. You'll make slow progress, but everything will run smoothly. The game systems really do work once you've figured them out.

I've been following this game since launch, and stayed away because of the bad reviews.

I saw the update pop up and the special and decided what the hell.

So far, it's been alright. There are a lot of things to do, although some stuff can be quite repetitive. But I will probably enjoy this game for a hundred hours.

There's still a lot missing though. I read the patches notes and I definitely understand why people were pissed at the initial release. Lots of stuff I take for granted, which I would have never bought the game without, were absent. It must have felt like a demo before, now it feels like a game.

I still wouldn't advise paying full price for it. $20-25 is what it's worth in its current state.

Hopefully, they keep updating it, they've done a good job so far from what I've heard.

(They probably should just have waited a year for release, but hey I guess Sony wouldn't have liked that. Probably better than the huge backlash though)

Overall, the game is good. Though, the AI is unbelievably dumb and you'll waste loads and loads of money because they can't shoot straight, are too slow or can't just figure out which barricade to post themselves at when night comes.

If you do decide to buy this game, make sure you expand very slowly. Get as much villagers as possible before going to the 3rd tier castle, otherwise you'll just get screwed over by the poor AI. And by "as much villagers as possible" I mean a "how can they all even live in a small space like this" amount.

It's not a "OMG this game sucks" review: it is a pretty interesting pick. I had some fun, I still do sometimes. But it probably will make 98% of people angry after the first 2-3 hours. Unless they did actually take is slow like I think it should be done with this game.

Great EA title. A mix between Darkwood and System Shock. You wake up on an abandoned Mars colony and have to figure out what to do to survive and eventually escape. No hand holding, like it would be if you actually woke up in a devastated Mars colony in real life. You'll have to figure out most of the stuff for yourself (although there is a great tutorial that explains the different game systems you'll be challenged with).

It is a very stable game. My only disappointment so far is that, although it's supposed the be compatible with controllers, the controls with a gamepad are very buggy so you'll probably just end up using keyboard and mouse like I did. It'll probably be fixed eventually, though.

In the traditional spirit of Steam game reviews: I really wanted to like this game, and I did and still do.

Darkwood has been in early access for a long time, but it's been more than playable since it first came out. Never encountered a game breaking bug. The content updates are not weekly or even monthly, but it's already a great game, and they're mostly balancing it out. Personally, it's always been for the best.

Darkwood is a great mix between linear progression and randomization.

The devs keep changing the game mechanics here and there, but it's never a bad thing. They want to keep you on the move, while keeping you on your toes.

The atmosphere of this game is just incredible. During the day, you watch every single footstep you make. You never know when there's going to be a creep, an angry animal or just some poisonous mushrooms for you to step on. Some people don't like it, I love it... it makes you watch your every step... every step of the way.

During the night, you'll wish you scavenged enough wood to board up the windows that got destroyed the previous night, and just hope to god or whoever you believe in that it's going to end soon.

While the learning curve is not always easy, the game doesn't force you to move on to more difficult areas. You can stay in the beginning area (the Meadow) for as long as you like, and come back to it and spend some time there as much as you want. But know this, the further you progress in the game, the darker the woods are going to get...

Basically an enhanced version of Fallout 3 with a different storyline.

The game is nice to look at, and isn't ridden with game breaking bugs for once, given Bethesda track record. Some people apparently have those, but I didn't so far. I'm playing this on Ultra with a GTX 670 without issues or framerate drops.

Like any other Bethesda game, the loading times are pretty awful. Even loading from a SSD.

Gameplay wise, it's better than Fallout 3. Everything is more fluid: combat, dialogues, animations. Other than the new settlement builder feature and a very good crafting system, everything else is pretty much the same. And unfortunately, the Hardcore Mode from New Vegas does not return.

Story wise, I won't comment, because I don't care much for stories in game, personally. It's always more of the same to me.

Fortunately, with all its flaws and limited additions, Bethesda has been pretty forward about opening it to modders, so the game will certainly grow to become more than Fallout 3 on steroids.

If you're not sure about this game, you may want to wait for a few mods (official and unofficial) to come out and buy it on discount.

I've been revisiting this game, over and over, and over, and over. I've owned it since day one.

Everytime I come back, I think "Oh cool, they added this, and that, maybe it'll finally be fun." It is for the first hour, then all the same flaws that were there since day one reappear.

It's terribly balanced. It's a grinding game, but there's absolutely no reward whatsoever.

You're probably going to throw your mouse or keyboard in anger after a few hours, because you'll probably die for some stupid reason (bionic wolves, invisible wall, bad loot table, etc.) and have to re-grind your way back to gathering all the same stuff again.

Unless that's your thing, you probably should stay away.

If you want a "realistic survival experience", go for Don't Starve w/ Reign of Giants. Don't be fooled by the cartoonish style, its mechanics are a lot more realistic than this, and unlike LoD, it's also an actual game.

Do I recommend it now? No, no I don't.

The game right now is a pre-alpha, which means it's basically a demo. Is a demo worth 30$? No it's not.

I bought this game because I've been following it for a bit (I'm not a backer on KickStarter, it's not really my thing).

I'm a huge fan of the original Syndicate (I still play it today). What this game has right now is the ambience. You play it, and it feels like Syndicate, with better graphics, and less features ('cause it's a pre-alpha).

I bought this game full-well knowing this. And I still put out $30 of my money for it. Why? Because it wants to be the next Syndicate, and it's on a very good path to being just that. And they have at least one developer on the team that worked on the original. The groundwork has been put out, and if you had the chance to play it, you will know that the spirit of Syndicate carries on this in game.

In this state, no, it's not worth it for the average joe. If you're a fan of the original franchise, then it's up to you to decide whether you want to pay $30 now, or wait until full release and pay the full price.

I made up my mind, and the next 6 months are going to be exciting in watching this one grow to the long-awaited Syndicate (spiritual) sequel.
