With Take2's aquisition of Squad and Kerbal Space Program, they've begun to make changes that are starting to get under the community's skin. There is one that you absolutely should be aware of before you buy this game:

Red Shell is present

If you don't know what that means then I'll give a brief explanation. It's a tool that scrapes your computer for information that allows it to track you for advertising.

That's something I, and many others, feel is an unreasonable change to a game I've enjoyed for a long time.

At the moment it is still possible to play on version 1.3.1 that didn't have Red Shell. However, I don't know if they could change that if they decide to or not. So my recommendation is to either buy it now, get version 1.3.1, double-check it for red shell and never update it. OR just stay the heck away.

EDIT:

They have officially removed Red Shell from the game.

However, I'm keep the review the same for the time being. I'll come back and reevaluate it after I've given some more thought to how much this damaged my trust in the company.

For the moment, take this as a neutral vote for the game that just gives a bit of history of something that happened in its life and use that for weighing on your purchase decision.

Ignore my playtime, I bought the game before the Steam release and just moved my copy onto Steam.

I really enjoy this game.

Pros:

The gameplay and controls feel very fluid
It has an incredibly well-made set of core mechanics
Different ways to play depending on your style (Bounty Hunter, Pirate, Trader, Explorer, Miner)
Open universe where you can travel the entire galaxy

Cons:

It can feel a little empty at times - this will improve over time as more people start playing and when you hang around the busier hubs
Lacking content - there isn't tons to do right now, but with the major content updates that are being released for free this problem should disappear. PowerPlay is a big content update coming right around the corner for example.

Overall:

I find this game very enjoyable and I do recommend you give it a shot if you're interested. If you like Truck Simulator you will probably get a lot of enjoyment out of Trading, or Mining. If you like something with more action, you will probably be suited towards Bounty Hunting or Pirating. If you just want to Explore the galaxy and see a ton of stars, you can do that too; in fact, I should mention that there is a race that some people like to run to the center of the galaxy.

This game does have it's flaws and it can get a little samey but as Frontier releases more content and updates that problem will disappear. As it is the game has a solid base that they can build off of and I think that base is worth playing.

I highly recommend this game. It's absolutely balls to the wall action.

Warning though, if you are susceptable to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or another mouse hand RSI then you probably should avoid this game for your health. You will be clicking a lot... like, A LOT A LOT.

After a longer session of this game my wrist definitely can get achy and hurt. It's made me realize that I need to get a mousepad with a wrist-rest on it.

It still stands though if you are a fan of cheesy action packed fighting then you definetly want to take a look at this game. It's basically every action scene of every kung fu movie ever made played together randomly shuffled forever, getting progressively faster until all the colors blur together the action is moving so fast and you are the protagonist in every single one.

So two words: Buy It...

unless your wrist breaks easily.

If you are going to get this make sure to get TSLCRM - The Sith Lords Content Restored Mod. It restores a bunch of content that was cut from the game and makes it much more complete.

This is a very interesting title. It has an interesting and thought-provoking story. It's a very beautiful game, the environment really does come to life and feel very real in an interesting way. The music adds to the environment's emptiness and is very nice to listen too and fitting.

The plot as I mentioned is really thought provoking and had me thinking even after I finished the game. I should mention that it is very short and has limited replayability. I'd consider myself very good at puzzle games and it took me around 5 hours to beat. Overall though I think it's a very good game and is worth getting. I bought it for $5 and it was definitely at least that; At it's regular price of $15 I think I'd still get it, but it is a short game and it wouldn't be unfair to wait for it to go on sale.

I ran this on a fairly powerful gaming laptop without any real performance issues, here are my specs for reference:
CPU: i7 - 2670QM
GPU: GTX 560M - 3GB
RAM: 16GB
