Outside of racing, what is your most recent memory of something you got way too competitive about?

I’m terrible at everything. If I get competitive over something, I’m just gonna let myself down. I do that on Sundays enough.

Oh, I’ve got a good one. My friends and I go to Colorado quite a bit, and we ended up on vacation with a bunch of Hot Wheels tracks. Somehow they were in the house we were staying at — or maybe somebody brought them.

So we created a drinking game out of this Hot Wheels track that we set up — down two flights of stairs, across the table, across a snowboard. It was like an elimination round: Whoever’s car made it the shortest had to take a shot. And you could buy back into the game with an extra shot. It got massively overcompetitive.

And at altitude, alcohol takes effect faster.

The town we were in is like 8,000-something feet, so yeah, it gets a little blurry. I think that’s why it’s so blurry whether the Hot Wheels tracks were already there or someone brought them. But after that, it’s required that we bring Hot Wheels tracks on vacation because that was incredibly fun.
