This game was awesome when it was first released, but the updates over the course of a year have sadly taken the fun out of the game. I understand the ethos of the game, but the patches in service of "balance" have actually nerfed the player to the point that gameplay has become disappointing and unsatisfying. The game is simply no longer worth the time invested.

[Edit] I'm disappointed to be proven correct even after another year and several patches.

I feel bad for all of the clearly talented artists that likely put many thankless hours of crunch time into this game. However, I still can't recommend Starfield.

I wasn't able to finish even one play-through due to sheer boredom. If I had to describe what the state of the game feels like in two words, I would say "default template". The game is mostly serviceable (though buggy), and yet it just feels so joyless and lacking strong direction.

I strongly suspect that one of the reasons the game feels this way is to leave it as open to modding as possible. Bethesda is no stranger to the modding community, and have tried to exploit them for profit in the past. (Steam workshop in 2015, Creation Club in 2017, and Skyrim: Enhanced Edition). I would not be surprised to see something similar happen to Starfield.

I know that's purely speculation, but my point is this: As long as corporate greed is going to take priority over content creators (including Bethesda developers), this game will never be good.

An instant favourite, a perfect combination of cerebral and relaxing game play.

Perhaps not so much a game as it is a sandbox, but it is probably the most relaxing piece of software I have ever used.

Absolutely on point with the cold war conspiracy theorist vibes, and the paranoia that goes along with it.

I think this is worth the price point just to support a great developer trying something different.

I would love to see this game expanded upon, whether that means incorporating these systems in to a larger game, or even just a longer, more complex version of this game, perhaps with a different investigation.
