so much for democracy

disappointing to me as a metroidvania. very little "new" here. no unique powerups or level design. there are a few annoyances i had that stuck through most of the game, mostly the stamina system which i dont think adds much other than limiting your exploration speed. a lot of empty square rooms in this game, not a lot of memorable encounters.. it was pretty easy to just bash my head against the game and win without thinking much, other than the secret boss at the end which i didnt like because it exposes a lot of issues with the combat. i played reverie under the moonlight like 10 years ago when it came out so my memory of that game is incomplete but i feel like this game is only slightly better than that one overall.. or maybe slightly worse.
its ok. the length is disappointing but it also means the flaws of the game grate on you less. i was really looking forward to this game but it just didnt deliver like i hoped it would. its cute, and pretty, but it just lacks substance. i started out wanting to grab all the achievements, but in the end, i lost the desire and realized playing the game 2 more times in a row just for completion would just further sour my opinion of it.
i still wouldnt say this is a BAD game, but it is very average. wait for a sale if youre interested, IMO.

its ok. the gameplay is reminiscent of halls of torment, but its much easier than that game. i think variety is lacking early on before you unlock some of the characters' 'sign' passives. they are all pretty similar without them, aside from the one ranged character. i also really appreciate the transparency with the stat screen showing what every single stat does and how much they affect other stats. most games fail in this department. also, the voice acting is really cringe, as is the character dialogue. those dont really matter, but they are still cons imo.
i probably wont play this much more until it has had a couple major updates, but its still much higher quality in presentation than most other games in this genre, and could definitely become a great game with time.
