♥♥♥♥ HARMONIX. DO NOT BUY HARMONIX GAMES IF YOU ARE OKAY WITH THEM SHUTTING DOWN ALL PURCHASES AND FEATURES WITHIN THREE YEARS.

Abandoning this game after such a short period of time shows how little they care to provide continued support for their games.

They are doing this with every game they make now. For example Dance Central (Oculus VR) was shut down completely, which broke the game (essentially unplayable) yet they still left it up for purchase for like 6 months and have not provided a fix for those who still own the game.

Harmonix games ultimately serve as a quick cash grab that exploit short-term licensing agreements and, more importantly, the hard work and dedication of the devs who make such fun games.

UPDATE Nov. 2022: I can now recommend this game because they've further optimized the graphics and the LOD / pop-ins are nowhere near as bad. The anti-aliasing is pretty jagged even on the highest settings and there are still issues especially with the foliage - but it's not as unpleasant as it was after the Sep. '21 graphics update.

----
PURCHASE DATE: Needs better optimization. Running on an RTX 2070 Super isn't even enough for solid performance.

UPDATE 9/16/2021: Ironically the game is WORSE after this optimization update. It runs smoother & at a higher framerate, but the LOD / texture pop-in issues are horrendous. The ground constantly morphs around you. It's impossible to see other players when the foliage is solid blocks, and you can't scan for movement when everything is popping in and out all over your monitor.

Enjoyable point and click.

Extremely good art. Very good sound design.

Would love this to see this expanded beyond a simple point and click, maybe with mechanics similar to something like Moonlighter.

The MMR / ELO system is totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥; and on top of the dwindling playercount, the changes they've made to address it make it feel worse every time.

The game is struggling and the stunt of pulling it from Steam to get players on the Epic Game Store has seen it's maximum returns and they should just put it back up now.

It seems they have little interest in attracting new players to the game - never mind the fact that they haven't implemented a decent onboarding system, or anything that directly addresses player development / retention. Hell, they haven't even attempted to make the use of custom workshop maps a seamless experience on the Epic version.

There's no other game like this, and it sucks to see that Epic would rather send the cash cow to the slaughterhouse and squeeze out every last dollar than improve the game's experience.

I would argue that this is top 5, if not the single greatest CRPG video game of all time. Certainly it's the best modern DnD-style RPG, in the vein of Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate. This is a rich world with deep gameplay systems, and a single playthrough can easily reach over 100+ hours of play.

The stats and character building are a little more streamlined than other CRPGs, but provide variety and complexity to both the gameplay and narrative. Dialogue and story path options are constantly affected by your stats and choices, even in the most minor decisions or character interactions.

Combat feels a little more tactics-like when compared to other RPGs but works really well. You'll have a lot to think about when you choose your abilities and spells, and will have to make careful, strategically sound choices to avoid being punished. The combat can be very challenging even on standard difficulty so it may take some time / multiple attempts to advance past certain areas, but I recommend trying your best to find creative solutions before lowering the difficulty. You might have to cheese entire areas, pray to the RNG gods, or reload 8 times, but these were some of the most satisfying moments I've experienced in an RPG.

Re-loading save states can break the "flow" a bit... but if you find a good balance between allowing mistakes to happen and reloading only when it's important to you, I promise there are few games where barely scraping by a win in an epic fight feels MORE rewarding.
