Honestly feels like an early Assassin's creed game, with the world size/map collectables of one of the RPG entries...

The game is beautiful, and has an awesome backdrop. The combat, at first, feels awesome and exciting but the allure falls off pretty quickly. The upgrades quickly turn you into a walking armada of different weapons/stances that make the combat annoyingly easy and repetitive (I was playing on hard difficulty). The story isn't terrible but the inability to skip dialogue is annoying when you're talking to the 85th peasant who is complaining about the invasion. Maybe it's my completionist brain, but the sheer amount of POIs scattered around the map (which you need for upgrades/side missions) make it impossible to just enjoy exploring the world.

The game isn't bad by any means, but if you've pushed yourself through as many bloated Ubi-RPGs as I have, you know how hard it gets to bring yourself to finish another one. I certainly can't justify spending $95 AUD on it...

Edit: I'm gonna finish the game, may as well since I've already paid for it. I turned the difficulty up to the max setting, and it's cool having swords be as lethal as you would expect (you/enemies die in practically one hit). And yet between the skills and armour you get (mitigating the risk on the player's end), its ended up just making the game easier...

Hard, but not unfair. Get a handle on the basics and you'll feel like your favourite kung-fu protagonist in no time...

A very cleanly executed game with incredibly deep melee combat for sweats and badass horde fighting for casual players. Not a Warhammer fan personally, but the world/characters get nicely fleshed out while you're busy wreckin rats. Winds of Magic content might be worth a miss for most though...

Disclaimer:
I haven't played an assassin's creed game since Black Flag, but prior to that i religiously 100%ed every game before it.

Since Origins, Ubisoft has taken a very different approach to AC, and thank god since by all accounts the formula was getting old. To sum it up briefly; I enjoyed this game immensely and then stopped enjoying it.

Odyssey is definitely an RPG, and the levelling elements (with gear/ability upgrades) have been decently satisfying to me as an MMO/RPG player. The combat feels fun and pretty in line with classic AC, although you can ultimately decide whether you want to focus on stealth stats, warrior combat or hunter archery skills. The setting is awesome, there's lots to explore and the story is interesting enough that I wanted to see how it unfolded.

Here's the problem.. The game makes me think that studio execs forced the dev team to create a minimum 100 hour experience.I'm susceptible to complete everything in a game, and while I begrudgingly have explored every location, finished every side mission etc for Odyssey, I honestly stopped enjoying it about halfway through. The game is crammed with features designed to get exponentially harder to complete the further down you pursue them eg upgrading the engravings you can put on weapons (which increase certain stats).. I simply don't feel like I got as much out of the game as an RPG/world exploration experience that other games (Elder Scrolls, Witcher, even Far Cry) offer. It was more of an interactive checklist with a cool variation every now and then.

Honestly, if you are/have been an AC fan like myself, pick the game up on sale and focus strictly on the story quests or any side content that interests you. Don't make my mistakes, enjoy it for what it is and don't expect a top tier RPG experience...

Rust is like buying fentanyl on a street corner. You're either gonna have the time of your life or die in the middle of a field while someone yells at you in a foreign language

(Disclaimer- I didn't play the game before 1.0 release)

From the time I've had with Hunt, it feels like the perfect mix between PvE and PvP. On one hand, you have to be careful of the constant environmental threats, which can easily kill you if you underestimate them. On the other, encounters with players are common enough that you feel like you're in a multiplayer game, but rare enough that your heart beats when you hear muffled footsteps or a gunshot nearby. Older players seem to argue the game has lost its difficulty or intensity, and perhaps features such as the enhanced dark vision (basically wall hacks for about 5 seconds) have contributed to this. However, as a new player, I have nothing but good things to say about Hunt's game-play loop. The addition of an alternate game mode might add freshness for recurring players, and a few more boss types wouldn't go amiss. But to sum it up, an intense, exciting and atmospheric game best enjoyed with a friend or two.

P.S I hear the player base is fairly limited, but you only need 12 players for a full game, so this hasn't had any effect on my matchmaking experience.

Ok. It's really freaking fun, that simple really. The combat is not too fast (save for certain weaker weapons) so as to make every action meaningful and not spam dependent. There will always be people who complain about certain play-styles (eg shield and rapier/spear builds), but every combination feels legitimately usable if done correctly. This is the kind of game that could remain a steam staple if the devs continually update it and support the steam workshop. It's also the kind of game that could die out if they enjoy its initial success too much without continuing with content development. Either way, it's very well optimised (for 64-player servers) and, although a little bit too expensive, definitely worth checking out.

This game is entirely barren. It stutters as textures load, has only 50 players per the massively empty maps, and loot is so minimal (as well as zombie spawns) that you'll burn hours literally just roaming looking for something to do. Somehow STILL buggy as hell (after years of development) and devoid of any interesting mechanics. Don't bother.
