The game is good and a PSN account is optional. Recommended.

Be aware that this game is bundled with some crappy xbox live account. Joining friends with this system is a hassle.
And god forbid you forget your xbox live credentials (let's face it, you already did) which you are required to re-enter from time to time for no good reason. In that case you need a new account and re-add all your friends. And all you gold is lost, too.

As for the game itself. Looks beautiful, but get's boring fast. Missions are repetitive. And since the game insists on placing teams of all sizes on the same server, most encounters are pretty much one-sided. Even stupider: even though all 3 boat classes are allowed on the same server, you can't change yours on the fly when friends join or leave the game.

Update: it happened again. A friend of mine was locked out of her account despite having the password saved in a password manager. Only this time she could not create a new account and verifying your old one takes days. No thanks.

Game still won't let you play under your player tag. With the newest update you can generate some random name, which makes me even more angry.

A beautiful looking shooter with an intriguing story and multiple endings. What more can you ask for?

If you would have a look at the game without any background information, you would think it is a typical free to play game, not a full priced one.
You level up fairly quickly, but leveling up is pointless since that won't unlock the numerous characters or weapons upgrades (or cosmetic items like skins, headgears and charms). You still have to buy them. For that you have not 1 but 3 different currencies to manage, each aquired in a different way, a pattern you are certainly familiar with if you've ever seen a free to play game. One currency basically equals playtime and is free, the other is real money, and the third is some special kind of real money. If you are thinking about just unlocking everything with the free one, sorry, that's not possible since various items can only be bought with the other kinds of currencies, for certain items you even need to buy a wholy different game. But even if you forget about the cosmetic items for a while, you are still looking forward to multiple hundreds of hours of grinding until you have unlocked all characters and at least the essential weapon upgrades, which - spoiler alert - are a must have, because the weapons are pretty much useless without them. And of course you don't simply buy them just once, or once per weapon or even once per character. You end up buying the same scope over and over again for no reason whats-o-ever. So when you reach level 100 or so, you are finally set up to play the game the way it is intended to be played. Congratulations. But that won't stop you from encountering people that have to play with the default character because they cannot afford any other DESPITE HAVING BOUGHT THE FULL GAME.

But that is just some greedy money grab, and if you are a millionaire or some special kind of stupid, you might be even ok with this. So let's look at the gameplay instead.
The game promises to be Counter-Strike but with more freedom of choice on howto advance, since it has a desctructible environment, but it feels only like a very dumbed down version of what it could have been.
Yes, there are breachable walls, which in theory give you a huge number of different options to approach a situation. But but in reality, only certain walls in certain locations are breachable, and the game forces you into a certain way of approaching them. Once you memorize the map and the walls, you can't help to notice the same reoccuring pattern over and over again. You will always see the same walls getting reinforced, the same spots for holes in the walls, the same positions with people camping. And the fact that the breachable walls are always in the same spots doesn't help much.
Speaking of enforcing a certain play style: If you want to place you laser trap not on a window but the stairs instead, you are out of luck. Placing a cluster charge on something that is not a breachable wall or floor? No way! You want to place your bear trap or shield in a specific location? Better go pixel hunting then.

Also don't be fooled by the big front cover. That one where a police squad rushes in on a group of terrorists. Forget that, it doesn't happen. At least not in multiplayer, since you cannot play the terrorists.
All of which is weird since there are terrorists in the game. But I guessed they ditched that so they can sell the stupid progression system.
Both of the two teams play as police force, so the only way to tell them apart is if they have little names floating over their head or not, because generally speaking, for every character in your team, there is a character in the opposion team that at least on first glance looks very similar. On the other hand, the characters of a given team look so different so you have to ask yourself what is going on. You have members of the police dressed in black next to a desert camouflage military guy. Even the old versions of Counter-Strike had more unified looking teams than this.
The tactical planning, once a hallmark of the rainbow six series, is dumbed down to choosing your spawn point and a remarkable poorly working "mark some spot in my line of sight without any additional information or sense of depth". Sure you can use voice chat to plan your moves, but that is true for every other game out there.

The matchmaking system is doing a good job at grouping you together with people close to you. The downside to that is that it sometimes can be difficult to find enough people during the night time (everything past midnight), even on weekends. This is especially true for the terrorist hunt missions.
When it works, you sooner or later will find you playing with 4 random players against a full 5-member clan on the other side, even when you play on "casual". The reasons they do this are - and I quote - "warmup", "training", or my favourite: "because it is not illegal". And they are right, there is no system in place that prevents you playing against vastly superior players or even whole clans.

The game is missing many basic things that a 2016 game should have.
Lost connection and want to rejoin your friends? Sorry can't do. Which is just extra stupid since it is possible to join ongoing games, but only if the matchmaking fails to find a better lobby for you. Of course that isn't perfectly working either, since you have to wait for a whole round to play, even if you join during the preparation phase. Sometimes you can't even sit back and watch the round as all you see is some static background picture.
Have all keys rebindable? Not with us.
Want to invite someone via steam? In your dreams. Better hope uplay friends is not down again.
Want to play with your nickname? Sorry, it is taken. Although neither you nor your friends will ever meet this person.
What about your fallback nickname? Sorry, it contains some special characters (which does not only mean unicode characters (btw really? in 2016?) but some surprisingly large amount of ascii characters as well). Because of these stupid rules you often see playernames that resemble your mom's best passwords like 'Joe1111'. How that is a better system is beyond me.

In summary, you should not buy this game. It will probably go f2p anyway as soon as they don't get enough money from selling the base game anymore.

Excellent FPS-RTS-hybrid with a strong focus on the FPS part. Initially you have to invest some time since there is so much stuff to learn about, but it is very rewarding afterwards. Certainly one of the best games I know.
