A fast paced game that's simple to get into, Frontlines being a fun game mode. It can be frustrating to charge towards the trench only to get shot down over and over, and when you're finally in the trench, to get grenaded over and over by people that want to clear you out, but it's satisfying when you manage to hold out with your team.

I stole some nails from a desk and it made a bunch of bulls develop a conscience and a concept of justice that made them want to murder MY FRIEND EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOTHING WRONG, solid 10/10

I'm giving this game an honest try and I'm still only in the first Chapter, but as is, I cannot recommend it unless you are severely in lack of JRPG. Believe me, I like me some JRPGs and tacky stories about elements and whatever. I can put up with those, that's fine, and the story here is more or less pretty original, but there's a few different issues: as of yet, this is an handheld import with unimplanted features (such as the Monster book).

The protagonist is a girl which's main trait is being a ditz, which we are reminded of CONSTANTLY. The dialogue, which the game is nearly overloaded with, consists of doubtful jokes and a 'will they won't they' relationship between the protagonist and her adopted brother.

The grid battle system, while functional, is a bit clunky, as you cannot decide from which facing some characters will hit the target. This results in the occasional issue where a character with reach and mobility will knock an enemy beyond the reach of a shorter ranged character, artificially lenghtening combat, which already is trivial. There's no real penalty to dying, either, as you can just press the 'retry' button and redo your battle from scratch. There is a lot of back-and-forth travelling in this game, which sincerely becomes redundant. You also HAVE to set the camera on free rotation, as the awkward 45 degree angle will otherwise block important features on the field.

Only get this game if you're a hardcore fan of JRPGs, as it is average at best, and get it while it's on sale. For anyone else, you're free to pass this and play better games.
