Beautiful game, very reminiscent of Journey (PS3, Thatgamecompany), which was one of my favorite PS3 games. Not long, but not short enough to feel like you're not getting your money's worth - also plenty of collectibles to go back and gather after you finish the game. Highly recommend!

Is the game worth $40 for someone who owns/has played the original already? No. But it is definitely a lot prettier and runs much smoother. Also, while I don't know if the original actually doesn't work online anymore or not, several times I've tried to play it online and never seen either signs or messages - so if they have removed the online functionality of the original, then this may be worth it just to be able to play with friends again (why I bought it (on sale and with the loyalty bonus)). End result, if you love the franchise and see the game cheap enough (like sub $10, maybe ~$5) then go for it, otherwise its a rip off.

The ground work is all there, but the official content is lacking - this is mainly a tech demo. Fortunately the modding community has stepped up and created plenty of content; just note that there are no large maps like the Skate games map, or even the Tony Hawk games maps, just maps the size of admittedly large skateparks, so you'll need to download several or you'll still get bored. Overall a a great demo and fun for any skateboard enthusiast.

[1.0 Review]

The 1.0 release brought the addition of a nice selection of maps, some of which smallish skateparks, others of a decent slice of a city. The integrated replay editor that was added makes taking screenshots very easy - though addition of filters and time of day editors would be nice. Character customization really helped the game out imo - no longer stuck to modding tools to change clothing/board, all can be done as one would expect in a finished game (including gender select, though female clothes selection is quite lacking). But the biggest improvement for me was the addition of challenges in each level - now if you're out of ideas on what to do, or new to a map, you can do some of the challenges to get better at tricks, learn new spots, or just enjoy a challenge. This finally made the game feel more like a game than a tech demo. While I still recommend the game without question to anyone who likes skateboarding, I do really hope there will be post launch support in the way of levels, challenges and skater customization options.

**TLDR very good game, fun, relaxing and you can sink a lot of time into it; highly recommend**
Went into this as my first Sims since the original Sims, so here are some differences and my opinions on them:

Sims now age and die - not a fan of this, especially with the very short life span on default, though in the menu you can increase lifespans to a point where aging pretty much wont happen

Sims have goals/wishes - these are nice, it gives you something more to do than just focus on making money and advancing your career

Besides regular careers, there are other ways to make money - these are nice additions, you can make a living as a fisherman, street musician, odd jobs from phone calls, etc

Sims have cell phones - nice to be able to use the phone whenever, though I don't know why they still allow you to purchase a land line phone?

Not everything is in build/design mode, you can go to stores and actually shop - this is a very nice addition, gives your daily routine more variety

Design (or decorate, whatever you call it) mode has very little option - in Sims 1 i recall having so many items to choose from it was very easy to make your house unique, this game (base version, no DLC) honestly has very little; though i know thats part of the ploy to get you to buy the DLCs

Amazing little game, great for when you have a little time to kill (few minutes to half hour). Graphics look great, ambient sound is very relaxing, and gameplay is simple and fun. Fully recommend!

Great remake of the original Half Life, missing some content but devs are working on it, definitely worth it even in it's current state.

There seems to be a very cool game here, but it's to hard for me to enjoy. I still recommend it though because I know there are plenty of others who might.

I like the game, but it needs tutorials/driver training and some more assists (like Forza's racing line overlay) to assist brand new players on how to actually complete a lap without wrecking.

Very fun, but very challenging - expect to get a few DNFs unless you keep restarting stages. Note there is no story mode or anything; just online and offline championships to keep replaying.

As it stands right now there isn't to much to do after the initial "wreck everything" phase everyone goes through, but they are working on a campaign/story mode(s) so it should get better sustainability in the future.
