Team Fortress 2 is a great game that pretty much everyone is familiar with by now. But for those of us who have yet to explore the game’s level of online play or tournament scene, it may not be immediately clear where to start. To make finding your way through the game easier, here are seven tips to help you score in each class and take your first steps in playing competitively.

Sniper

Sniper is probably the most readily available class for new players, and arguably the one which has the easiest setup. There’s no in-depth class progression or item builds to learn. All you have to do is pick up a mouse and a keyboard, find some friends, and then begin building up your skills. Being able to shoot fast and shoot accurately with little to no movement and relying on gunpowder and a sniper scope are some of the most compelling reasons to play sniper.

To that end, make sure that you keep an eye on your surroundings. Check for safe areas to hide and shots to take, even when you’re in a highly populated area. Some maps have walls which you can climb on or hang from, or tree trunks to hide behind, so even if you’re pinned down you can still survive a few shots.
