Dont really have all that much experiance behind other options like quest link and virtual desktop. that being said i havent had too many issues with steam VR, ocasionally it has its moments but it does what it needs to 99% of the time.

Early Access Review
Some context, I started playing this game on my quest 2 back in 2022, probably the best money I have spent cause i played the snot out of this game and it ended up being one of the games that pushed me to pcvr. I have alot of good memories with this game over those 2-ish years.

All that being said a line in the sand has been crossed, for a game being in early access there should not be any paid dlc. I want to see the game make it to a 1.0 release not pay $12 for 2 guns, 3 levels and some cosmetics. Big kicker being it was outsorced to the same people who helped re-imagine some of the base game maps, why are they not helping work on finishing the main game.

Anyways, the game isnt bad in isolation. yes it has its issues between the kids, hacker's and nasty people running around the public lobbies where the vast majority of people are. The AI still needs more love, its come a long way since 2022 but the bad guys being able to see in the dark (sometimes even through walls), being able to attack and kill the player by kicking him through a solid wall and some other minor things. but as a long time player the paid unfinished dlc really puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I will probably getting around to reviewing this game whenever jarvis finally gets around to releasing 1.0 but for the time being i would probably just wait till its on sale...

Right i don't 8+ hours in this game but i have pretty much seen all this game has to offer in its current state and needless to say the game is not worth it right now. The bones are there but it all feel lacking right now (and for obvious reasons).

lets start with what they got right:
-The graphics look amazing and the setting is "mostly" perfect. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into making the game look beautiful.
-The tablet is surprisingly intuitive, allowing you to track your current quests and challenges while being able to see where you are on the map.
-Having a shooting range where you can actually test out your guns is a great feature.
-The ability to choose what time of day you want to infill at is also a handy feature for people who want play their "moons out goons out" fantasy's.

now the bad and this one is gonna be long:
-The map is very small, you can probably walk across it in about 5 mins from corner to corner, the hills around the map don't make it any easier to maneuver around and go where you want to go.
-While the bones for a fantastic weapon customization system are there, the game is heavily lacking in attachments and what you can actually put on them. However its not at slim as your selection of weapons.
-As amazing as the graphics are, sometimes there are graphical errors and some things that look off, on the default settings vie noticed that the player looks like he has a paper bag over his face sometimes. On night sometimes the puddles on the ground glow like they are a portal to another dimension. When everything comes together it works wonderfully well but sometimes you can see the duct tape holding the experience together.
-Challenges and quests are also very slim and very boring. Quests are pretty simple, you have demolition missions, intel grab missions and plant bug missions which are all the same for all 3 of the factions. challenges are pretty simple where you simply need to sell X number of items or kill X number of bad guys or just plain exfill X number of times.

Look I can keep going on and on about the number of flaws this games has in its current state, but its one of those games that is gonna need updates over time (as shown by the road map). Do i think the game probably need more time before the average Joe is gonna buy it? Yes absolutely and ill most definitely come back next year when the later road map features are added into the game. Maybe if you like tarkov a lot and are just frustrated with the hacks and don't like pve i can see this being a worthwhile buy but in the games current state it needs more time to cook...

Ignore the hours played as I've been playing this game since release 0.C back sometime in 2015. I've probably put thousands of hours into this game and things have only gotten better and better as the years have gone on...

I do have to warn new players looking to get into the game or wondering weather or not they should try it that this game has massive learning curves with systems that have weird interactions with one another and plenty of jank in between. You will die countless times over and over again trying to grasp some of the basics, dealing with the many creatures and even just getting plain unlucky. CDDA really is a truly unforgiving survival game.

If you just want a fun survival experience, this really is not the game for you. If you want a brutal survival experience, are running a potato (how I started out playing this game) and have nothing else to play or even just a veteran of CDDA and games like it like Unreal World or Dwarf Fortress this is definitely a must buy.
