I'm almost 600 hours in. This game is a shell of it's former self and honestly no longer worth your time or money.
The amount of 'fun' they've removed from the game is staggering and honestly they show no signs of stopping taking what people enjoy and ensuring it's modified to be as unpleasant as possible. Learn by doing? Nope, rng book hunt. Jars we can fill with water? Absolutely not, have slow ass water collectors instead that paint a massive target on your base. Featuring armours that they then pulled and put in dlc instead to milk just that little bit more. Dye system for armour/clothing... Def not. Instead pay AU$16 for cosmetics. They are ugly hostile developers who have no respect for their players. How exhausting.

First patch of the game makes multiplayer have unplayable 5-10s lag stutters.

This game pleasantly surprised me. It was cute. It was fun. I could play with my friend. It has adventure, and grind and story. It was a lot longer and more in depth than i was expecting and that was a wonderful surprise.

I'm not one to review games very often, and will only do it for those that really amuse me.

Would recommend this in a heartbeat!

This is a fantastic game about exploration, discovery and survival. You also have the added bonus of making slow but profound changes to your surroundings. Honestly stunning, fun, and now with coop, even better!

The second map doesn't quite have the compelling story of the original map... yet...

This game is seriously fun. Extra 10 points for every ectype you yeet out the airlock by over-riding it!

It has bugs.

No they dont ruin the game.

Styx is such a pretty map. Makes me want to head out on a riverboat and enjoy the scenery...With guns.

Honestly, for all the trash talked about this dlc. It has the things we asked for. We, the community: "We want xyz". Them: "Here you go."

If that's not worth your money i'm not sure what is.

I really want to like this game.

I have almost 1k hours in age of wonders planetfall and another 100 odd in aoe3. I love the games, the genre, the playstyle, right up my alley.

But it wont run. Getting desync on turn 2. Major performance issues on a pc that's at most 3 years old. The networking and connection issues are so prevalent that it's failing to load ai turns on a sequential turn game playing on a home network. Until they fix their issues, not even remotely worth the money.

TLDR play planetfall. Its more fun and more stable.

I have tried the game again at the release of the hotfix last year. And again most recently at the release of the mystic update since i saw it had a lot of 'out of sync' fixes in it. It's worth noting I've upgraded my pc since then and I no longer have performance issues (expected). I am also unable to test on a home network currently. But on a 50 down 15 up connection to someone else in my country we are still getting out of sync at turn 10-20 of the game. Their connection is better than mine.

The connectivity ruins this game, constantly having to 'reload' turns, sometimes even part way through a turn at the start of games makes them so tedious it's still not worth playing.

TLDR play planetfall. At least you can finish the game.

Could have done with an extra 6 months in development.

That being said the fun far outweighs the 'i'm waiting on content' or 'this game has bugs'.
Saying that we shouldn't accept bugs in full release games as gamers is a bit of a joke considering the demands we make for the new, the fun, the innovative. Cant blame devs for a greedy me me me now now now player market.

The game is well fleshed out, best played with a friend or two and with enough planning you'll each find your 'role' a bit like a rpg in a way. It will punish you for not paying attention, and can turn on you rapidly enough to keep you on your toes.

So yes, there's a lot the devs are obviously still working on. But I'm happy with a game that develops over time.

For everyone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about fps issues. Stop running 4k on your toasters.

Update: It's been about a year. Game is still seeing weekly updates and love. Just started playing again and it's fantastic.

Update 2: Been a good few years. Game still seeing updates every week. I've never seen a team so dedicated. Heaps of love and attention put into making this game awesome.

Honestly, I could waste so many hours on perfection only to resort to spaghetti. Dont let that bother you though. It's beautiful. It runs smooth, and best of all it's so damn chill.
