Best MOBA. Does need polish and bug fixing, which unfortunately puts a lot of people off. Don't expect a flawless game experience off the bat, but see the game for what it provides in terms of gameplay. We need more players, because this deserves so much more attention and love and live service (which it was not planned for in this relaunch).

Actual game review
For those understanding that this is a mobile game. Of course its pricing structure is not catered towards Steam users and it's predatory as ♥♥♥♥. But: Is the game actually good and can it be played without paying a dime?

Yes to both. There is a large community of players who are very well aware of the atrocity that is the pricing on pretty much everything and who still play the game with no or very low expenses. I have been a F2P player for nearly four months now and I just find myself laughing at all the ways Plarium is trying to extract money from players. The game as such is reason enough to play though.

It's a hero collector / gacha-style game with a deep strategic component. Trying to find composiitons of teams to beat certain challenges is engaging and really challenging. You can play this casually and just accept that you won't be able to progress without new champions and gear or try to plan out and get the help from the active community on what exactly you need to barely get to the finish line. This can be done with half an hour a day or if you want to go hard and learn as much as possible as quickly as possible, exhausting all resources and performing as many actions as possible by playing several hours daily.

Conclusion

Look, I have been a hardcore gamer for pretty much all of my 32 years of life. I pick up maybe one AAA game on release two or three times a decade, otherwise I absolutely flourish in a Single-A and smaller game environment. Games are an art form and I will judge very harshly if I consider something to be unethical.

Mobile games barely qualify as games to me. I went into this with the expectation, that it would be atrociously monetized and that I would not pay a single dollar. And look at me almost four months of daily playing and 200 hours of Youtube content later - I am still thoroughly enjoying it, leaving a review defending the game itself on the platform of my heart.

Know you can play this without spending and have fun. Plarium is exploitative, everybody in the community knows this.
Strategic planning required for non-casual playing.

DIsclaimer: If you are known to be prone to unreasonable spending and gambling addiction, please do not play RAID or any other gacha-style game. This is not the game for you as it will tempt you to spend more and more funds. Please seek help, if you are still actively suffering from addiction. I'll be here to support, send me a message.

Joyful for what it is. Nothing outstanding, but fun.

Best RPG since the Mass Effect series to me. Even some mainstream players got to realize how broken and capitalist the AA and AAA industry has become when *this* is the standard you can deliver.

What. A. Lovely. Delight.

Day 1, some stutters, whatever. It'll get sorted. I came for the game, not to celebrate my high end setup. And it is very playable and truly delivers.

Fights feel high stakes, adrenaline rushes through your vein every time. So far it is by no means as creepy as Dead Space, but I am slowly able to dive into the atmosphere. The attention to detail to create dread is wonderful, the sound design and music are phenomenal. Looking forward to the next couple of hours!

Seeing somebody claiming this had bad voice acting is absolutely hilarious as it is the strongest aspect of a generally very enjoyable game. Excellent performances backed by a good soundtrack.

The game as such has little gameplay, but tells a great story of psychological and physical trauma. It is not flawless by any means, but for a previously bundled game you can get for a lot cheaper than the MSRP of 10 bucks it is completely worth your time - especially if you are into freezing survival.

Early Access Review
Utterly and completely amazing game. Nothing in my life has caused 60 hours of gameplay to bug out and be lost and have me not even care and come back half a year later.

Gritty, dire and hopeless. Try again and lose everything.

A good rogue-like that lives off of the inherent storytelling, even though it does wear off after a few hours.

No matter the drawbacks, I still recommend it as an experience.

To anybody who likes deckbuilders, this game is a complete no-brainer. There is so much material to work with for over a hundred hours easily, it is well worth your time.

Many asked me how it compares to Slay the Spire, the genre primus. Monster Train is more fun and significantly easier, allowing you to progress to high level play without reading through guides and practicing through tons of failed runs. Slay the Spire design-wise is better and if you are looking for a challenge, nothing beats it currently. For casual players I'd have to recommend Monster Train over Slay the Spire, hardcore deckbuilding fans will enjoy both, but Slay the Spire has more longevity.
